Canadian TL VS US TL ??

Hi, I got this deal for 99 TL with 57500 miles on it, non-types nor navi.

I havn'et paid yet nor got the car yet but after tomorrow, i'm an official TL owner. AYE~

However, I "just" found out that the car was imported from Canada or this guy must've lived in canada brought it in. I'm wondering if it has any disadvantages/advantages such as option variables..

Also does it affect the car value? I got the deal for 13,600 (car's in good condition, not excellent). I was very happy that Igot a decent deal but now i'm all confused again
Thanks in advance.

Well I can tell you that the model from Canada will our should have DRLs Daytime Running Lights. The U.S. model does not come with this.

the minor differences would be KM vs Miles and emmissions i think rest should all be pretty much the same. ummm I think it might cost you a few hundred to do the Conversion.

Did the Marysville plant make the Canadian units also and just ship them up there or is there an assembly plant in Canada?

All the TLs and Accords are made in the Ohio plant. Civics, Acura EL (Canada only), and the MDX are made in the Alliston, ONT plant. You can tell by the VIN= US made starts with a "1", Canadian made starts with a "2" and of course the ones that starts with a "J" are imported from Japan. These are for Hondas but I don't know about other brands.

As for quality, the US and Canadian built ones are identical. Maybe lke what TL Navi said emissions and the kms/ miles are the difference, and oh, for that Canadian only DRL? I hate it. People get used to having cars with DRLs that they don't even turn their headlights on. Bad idea on the nightime. They should have at least made auto headlights madatory when they thought of the DRL at first.

Yankee in Canada.

Thanks guys. Well, the guage was in mileage. and as for the daylight, I think it looks okay =) It's not the HID that stays on, it's the little yellow light next to the HID.. you know what i mean?

thanks for the advice

If the gauge was in mileage on a Canadian TL, perhaps someone swapped the speedo out.... perhaps someone messed with the odometer??? I'd ask why the speedo isn't in KM.

Check with an Acura Dealer and see if they can track the service records. Maybe it was a rebuilt. Dealers in US/ Canada can track if the speedo/ odo was replaced and why.

In order to legally import a Canadian vehicle into the US, the instrument cluster must be changed out with a new speedo/odo. Emissions systems may need to be modified. DRLs must be adjusted (US limits are dimmer than the new Canadian standards).

As far as the VIN number (1=US Built,2=Canadian Built, J=Japan Built), that is an international standard. It will only tell you where the vehicle was built, not which market it was intended.

I have a Canadian TL and I'm in Atlanta. I bought it last year from a dealer in Canada, and I flew up and got the car myself. It does have DRL and some more lights in the gauge cluster.
