Yep, just about. I mean, it is theoretically possible if you achieved maximum fuel efficiency and ran the fuel tank bone dry. But I highly doubt you'll get 560 miles out of a single tank.

Oh, yeah. This reminds me of the Top Gear episode where Clarkson ran a turbo diesel Audi A8 on an 800-mile trip on a single tank. Great episode.

I probably wouldn't make it then. But i'd like to see how far I can go until the light comes on. I once acheived 31.7mpg during the summer, and I was driving at 65mph with no A/C. But that was only calculated with about 80 miles in range, but this time i should be able to get a really accurate reading for my highway milage.

On my old '03 TL-P, I got as high as 34 mpg. However, I had Toyo Ultra 800 tires which are famous for being good on gas (and not so good for braking) They make for good highway tires.

34 X 15 gallons = 480 miles

I wouldnt push it past 15 gallons myself.

Is your gas gauge broken?? Why would you want to try that?

i got 32mpg going out to Ohio once, but 380-420 miles per tank is more realistic for a long trip on one tank. i'm sure you'll be tempted to try it anyway, so be sure not to let your tank run dry.

Wow! That's a drive. Don't think you can make it on one tank of gas to Maryland.

While i haven't done that trip myself, I am pretty sure there are refueling stations along the way.

you wouldnt make it on 1 tank. If you could manage 32mpg you could get 500 out of a tank. Ive gotten in excess of 450 many times on long trips

not that i'm taking any long trips like that any time soon but if i was..., in the same position of trying to go for that record..., i'd carry a spare gallon tank just in case you didn't make your 560 miles...

You wouldnt make it....and even if you could I bet you'll chicken out once the needle passes the red mark. As a matter a fact, you'll probably chicken out once the light turns on and you find out that you're still in the 380-390 range.

I have about 106k miles on my TLS. I ALWAYS wait until the light turns on before refueling, and not once have I ran out of gas...but never have I tried to push it beyond 16 gallons.

On one trip I got 34.5mpg but I had a tailwind helping me out a bit. Getting more than 500 miles from the tank would be an extreme stretch. I say try it if you feel lucky but remember to wear some comfortable shoes incase you need to walk to a gas station. LOL

before i totaled my 1999 honda accord (I4, vtec) i took it on a road trip up to boston from baltimore. i filled up right as i was about to get on the highway and arrived at my destination 587 miles later, without my gas light on. i had used 15.4 gallons of gas, averaging 38 miles per gallon. the 99 accord is only supposed to get:

1999 Honda Accord

Find a Car

Fuel Economy
Fuel Type
Regular
MPG (city)
25
MPG (highway)
31
MPG (combined)
27

so, even though i was supposed to only get average of 31 miles to the gallon on the highway, i employed some different techniques to get the ridiculous gas mileage.

1. i got my oil changed right before i got on the road (that always helps with higher mileage)
2. tires inflated to pressure
3. surpisingly, i actually used regular unleaded, not premium
4. i used my ac the whole time, with windows up (increase aerodynamics)
5. travelled lightly (not that this was my intention for getting high mileage, i just decided to only take one suitcase with me
6. i travelled a steady FIFTY EIGHT miles an hour the entire time. i think i read somewhere that 50 or 55 miles an hour is when you get the best gas mileage from any car.
7. no stops. baltimore to boston without a single bathroom break, i packed a lunch with me. granted, when i got there i ran into my friends house and my bladder almost exploded.

so i think if anyone employed these techniques, primarily oil change, inflated tires, windows rolled up, and a steady cruise control 55-60mph (god thats hard in a TL) you could easily squeeze an extra 7-8 miles out of each gallon. it takes patience, but if you really want to make a 560 mile trip, i wouldnt recommend it like many others above this post, but - i have faith and i know you can do it. do it!!!

I really did it, I made over 560 miles with a tank of shell V-power premium gas filled in Michigan 5am in the morning, I've heard gas is denser when it's cold (on a side note it's below 0 C at all time in Michigan).

I average little over 34mpg with 3 people and 3 luggages in the car. I was so amazed at 1/2 tank mark, I was already at 280 Miles. But after the half way point the needle dropped quicker than the first half,

Well my fuel sensor is fucked up or something so its sort of finicky. When the needle is on empty, I only fill it up to about 11-12 gallons before its full, and I think we have about a 17 gallon tank. I made it from Atlanta to Orlando on one tank this past summer which I think was about 420 miles. I cruised at 80mph with the AC on. However coming back was a different story. I only got about 300 or so out of that tank. But like I mentioned earlier, my sensor is prolly not working. I just fill it up whenever the needle is on empty.

Congratulations!

What was the avg MPH? Was your low fuel light on? How many miles to empty was indicated on the MID?

Longest distance on one tank of gas for me was 450 (Detroit to Toronto and back). My low fuel light was on and I had 0 miles to empty when I refueled near home. This happened in earlier this year in mid-July.

3. surpisingly, i actually used regular unleaded, not premium

6. i travelled a steady FIFTY EIGHT miles an hour the entire time. i think i read somewhere that 50 or 55 miles an hour is when you get the best gas mileage from any car.

using premium in a car like the accord that does not require premium is a waste of money, the higher the octane the less effecient it is.

55mph is the standard epa mph for testing hwy averages for vehicles.

Thats true for most cars.

The Accord V6 motor in the '03+ cars however does benefit from using premium instead of regular. Both a power increase and slight MPG increase. Its been proven both on dynos, MPG calculations and Honda engineers saying so.

But again, what you say applies to 99% out there.

I had a 99 Accord four-cylinder that I maintained meticulously and it couldn't do that. It was pretty frustrating. But I believe your story is 100% true.

Now this 1998 four-cylinder Camry... 580 miles last tank mostly highway, 75-85mph. This car gets a consistent 40-41mpg on the highway. It's taken on the same trips regularly and always manages to pull the same mileage out of a tank. It never gets less than 500 to a tank, even with a lot of city driving. But the A/C is rarely ran and the tires are kept inflated properly and the maintanence is up to date.
