Can anyone tell me why this happens?

Every so often as of the past 2 weeks...when I start my car after it's been off for a few hours, sometimes I have to turn the key and hold it for an extra second or two before it starts. Before, I used to just turn the key and it started almost instantly. I just recently changed the oil and replaced it with synthetic and I have 80k miles on it...I had it inspected at about 75k and it was fine...I only ever use 91 octane and up...I drive very conservatively for the most part...anyone have a clue? Thanx!

I've noticed the same thing with my car. It used to always fire up right away and I would almost never hear the thing turn over because it was so quick to start. However, nowadays, sometimes it turns 5-10 times before starting, but it does it at random times (from a totally cold start to a re-start on a hot engine). Also, I just replaced my battery about 8 months ago with a new Diehard gold.

Could it be a faulty starter? I noticed this happen once or twice in the winter but I figured it was just cold. But in these past 2 weeks, it's happened 3 or 4 times. It still starts right away most of the time. I'm just wondering if this is the beginning of something....cuz it's always nicer to catch it early...

it has nothing to do with the starter. if its turning over the starter is fine, and so is the battery. it sounds more of a fuel/spark issue, something that the computer is trying to adjust for startup. i wouldnt say any thing is wrong either

So you think everything is fine? Nothing I should worry about? Also, last time I changed the oil, I overfilled it a little....but not too much...it's down below the line now...would that have anything to do with it? Is something flooded?

Just a thought, but I know when the temperatures start to climb they change the mixture of gasoline. Something to help with smog. Might have a difference, don't know.

Also, do you use fuel injector cleaner regularly?

Try getting some fuel injector cleaner, that might help.

Try this....

Turn the key to position 2, the setting it would be in once you've started the car. Wait about 5-10 seconds then start the car.

I thought about that, and I ran a can of BG44K through about 2 months ago. It still does it.
