Lightbulb Can ANYONE come up with a reason that a TL-P is better than a TypeS?

Hey everyone! Just out of curiousity...can anyone here think of ways that the TL-P is more desirable than the Type S? ie. Are there any reasons you would buy a TL-P over a Type S? I'm proud of my Taffeta White TL-P...hehehe...I just think I'd feel better if I knew that other people agree with me on certain little points about the TL-P...

hahaha....yeah, my big thing was that is was cheaper, but in the end, for the extra power and firmer suspension, is it WORTH an extra 4k? then again, bdv687, I DO like the cushier ride of the TL-P....I TOTALLY agree!

hemants:

Yeah, I think the big thing there was...CHEAPER!!! hahaha...I spent less on a TL-P but I still get people giving me props on how nice my car is, and how they wish they had one....hahaha...

I feel more confident winding up my TL-P as opposed to if i had TL-S because theres not as muche stress on the tranny, i know we have problems too but not nearly as severe, besides a tl p owns 90 percent of the crap thats drivin around on the road anyway

TL-S not worth the extra 4K unless u want to sup up... with 1K your TL-P can be as fast as type S, with 2K you get some serious distance...
And your still down 2-3K, you have a softer ride, as much power, more confortable seats and pretty much everything else is the same exept the grill, the foglights and the rims which i think are uglier.

Price difference between TL-P and TL-S is more like $2k.

Cheaper and I think the ride. I went to the TL-S because I LOVED the power, but the TL-P is definitely a lot softer and more comfortable ride. That would be a big reason to get the TL-P over the S.

The price is difference is more 2K not 4k. Also, a softer ride means horrible handling.

Modding the TL-P with 2 K of mods might make it a as fast or faster than TL-S but the same mods to the Type-S and you're history.

The ride is much smoother and i am not a fan of the headrests.....Dollae for Dollar value ........TL-P is a better car without the tranny problems.

If you want a cushier, cadillac ride with 16" wheels then the TLP is definitely the way to go. If you wanted a stiffer and firmer ride and more hp then the S was the way to go. What mods can you get to make the TLP faster than the TLS for 2k other than nitrous I would really like to know? Anyway, I knew when I wanted a TL that the TLP was not going to get it. The car is already a huge slushbox anyway, why go with the slower one? I'm sure the TLP owners are happy with their rides...

You know I was thinking the same thing. Why do TLP drivers seem to think that the S has more tranny issues? Does anyone have any statistics?

This is very true. And had the 04 TL been out when I was looking for my car I would be in it!

Oh, and I loooooooovvvvvvveeeeeeeee TLS headreast alot better than the Civic style headrest on the TLP. But I hate I can't fit my monitors in them.

When I went looking for my TL, I saw at Ardmore Acura in Ardmore PA that a TL-S was more like, 33k easy....but I totally believe that there is only a 2k difference...Ardmore is notorious for shitty service as well as jacked up prices. I DO like the cushier ride...but I did want a TypeS when I first saw one...in the end, i went with a TL-P because I figured a few things...it was almost 4k cheaper for me to get a TL-P, I can fit screens in the headrests (which I plan on doing this summer, so that was a must), and plus, I know some might not agree which is fine, but I like the 99-01 front fascia better than the 02+. I give mad props to anyone who has a TL at all, but something about the simpler and less aggressive look appealed to me...maybe its because I'm a big fan of sleepers. I love it when boy racers around here try to race me and get spanked with priceless looks on their face worthy of a Mastercard commercial...all STOCK too!!! They gimme a look like, :wow: , then, , then as I floor it and pass em, and finally ....hehehe

Easy fix...put in TL-P headrests in your TL-S!

I like the cushier ride of the TLP but I dont like the seats on the TLP, I wish there could be a mesh of the two. My girl has the TLP and I find it hard to find a comfortable driving position as I feel like Im too high off the ground.

Plus I love the power and the grunting roar that the type S makes when Im driving it, sometimes I turn the radio down and roll my window down and just listen to the sound of the exhaust in amazement in the amount of power that the car wants to unleash!! Plus I didnt really like the wheels of the TL-P.

Positives about the TL-P .. cheaper, softer ride.

Yeah, I just hate the look of the TLP headrests. I'm going to have to hopefully trade with someone this summer for their TLP headrest. The dealer wants $285 a piece for them, I think he's crazy!

I bought a Type S for the Seats (much more supportive, priceless). The Rims/Tires (better handling, looks much better IMHO, worth $1000). The Power (worth at least $1000). Those were my reasons. I found the price difference between the TL-P & the TL-S to be about $2200.

The only one I could think of is the '99-01 body style looks better than the '02-03 body style, and you can't get an S in the old style. Otherwise, the only thing better about the TL-P is the price.

Wow, everyone is saying the Type S handles better... I've never driven the Type S, but imho it handles like a boat! ... After swaybars and coilovers the car handled a lot better but I guess the TL-P must handle really soft and boat-like when its stock... I guess probably closer to the way my Dad's RL drives.

Anyways, when I was looking, I considered the TL-P to save money, but when it came down to it, I simply wouldn't have been satisfied with the TL-P. I'd be looking to upgrade to a faster car the second I took the car home ... So why bother settling? The extra $2k was worth the 35hp and all the rest that the Type S brings with it, including the respect! You'd be surprised how many people I talk to and when I tell them I have a Type S, I get a lot of respect for having a 'fast car' even from people who's cars are MUCH faster

Errr, I meant I've never driven a TL-P, but imho the Type S stock handles like a boat. Should have double checked that before I posted, but now its too late to edit the post

Bottom line, the stock TLS/TLP handles like a boat regardless. BOTH OF THEM!!!

TLS is not 4k more unless you are talking navi as well, which is an option for both cars

ditto. I like the TLP, its the reason why I bought the TLS in the first place. After having the TLS for two years and having driven a TLP again The suspension is too soft for me, the wheels too small, and once rolling the umph is there but not like my S (it doesn't help that I have a few mods to it making the hp difference more like 50 fwhp and probably 20-30ft/lbs of torque). I am probably a full second or more faster than a stock TLP in the 1/4 mile and probably .6-.8 seconds faster than a similarily modded one. I love my seats and didn't like the cushy feel of the P seats (shit, I love the CLS seats even more!).

And for the fools who think because they have a P they are tranny problem immune, read the FORUM!

Cool

well i had a 2002 TL-p for about 2 year and yes it felt smoother but when my TL-p got too many miles let say about 50k mile, we traded it in for a 2003 TL-s it felt more responce then the TL-p. well when we frist got the TL-p we couldnt wait for a TL-s with navi so we got the the TL-p with navi. but overall i like the TL-s more with the nicer seat and nicer rims

as far as the tranny goes im just basing what im sayin on physics, our cars (tl-p) have the same medicore auto tranny, start pushing 40 hp more on it and its bound to go sooner.

That's gotta be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Quick Reply: Can ANYONE come up with a reason that a TL-P is better than a TypeS?
