Calling all JDM rear wing owners. Question?

how easily dose the rear camera hook up?

i am close to purchasing one and this is the only deciding factor for me. i will have to paint and the install for the wing will be a breeze. but i wanted to know if it is a tedious job to hook up the back up camera. thanks in advance

Its not a direct hookup. You need to know which wires do what. There are 4 wires plus the shiled wire. They consist of Composite Video+, Composite Video Ground, +9V power(though i've run +12 and its fine since it only comes on when the reverse lights do) and Ground for the power. They way i have done them is to go to radio shack and buy a female RCA jack and then wire the composite video+, composite video ground and shield to the jack. Then you can plug in a standard composite video cable from there to whatever screen you want to see it on. Then the power wire i tap in the trunk at the trailer harnesses reverse light wire and ground you can put almost anywhere. Dom's unit along with the stock navi screen will give u the most OEM/JDM look and function. I have also wired it to my clarion in dash screen as well using an alpine Ai-net cable and a relay since i don't have my stock navi anymore, and that was what i needed to make it work on the max675vd, later models had a standard composite cable in on them.

no prob, i just did another one of these last night so i can help you out with wire colors and what each one does if/when you get them. Also there will usually be 3 more wires in the center one power and one ground for your third brake lamp and one just power for the spoiler lights.

For the 9V / 12V issue, couldn't you just add an in-line resistor to drop the voltage to 9V?

Yes, i've done that cheaply but it didn't seem any different than giving it 12V. If i can find a 9V battery i'm going to see if that can power the camera therefore i know if it does really take 9V or something got lost in translation. But i'm guess it is 9V cause in JDM land the camera plugs into a whole other box in the trunk which probably reduces the voltage going into the box and then to the camera.

Ha, i should I've had at least 4 of these already pass though my hands. I just ordered some new 3 terminal voltage regulator for +9V from digikey, going to give it a try.

And FYI, if you don't want to drill holes in the center of your trunk you can re-route all the wires to the left side just like the USA OEM spoiler, just need a metal coat hanger and some patience. Then you just have to cut the bolt off the middle with a dremal or something, put down some 3m tape and then bolt the spoiler to the 4 stock mount holes on the trunk. Run your 2 wires to the 3rd brake light terminal and one wire to the trailer harness park lights so your spoiler lights glow whenever you turn your park/headlights on

They are green, but Mike (c0v3rr1d3) changed all of the LEDs in his spoiler to red ones.

^correct. They are green and very dim at that. You need to modify the lights by cutting them open, and replacing the leds with red or whatever color you want. THen silcone and glue the lights back together. Done that 2 times going on 3 soon.
