i hear from alot of people that the by-pass valve is a good idea...but i dont want to install it cause...well...im lazy and i could sue that 40 bucks for something else..
has anyone ever actually hydrolocked their engine before?...and those without the by-pass...how carfully do you drive in the rain?...or do you just drive normally?

oh..and how hard is it to change/clean the filter?..whats the process?..i dont have to take the bumper off again do i?

I don't have CAI but I read stories here that the bypass valve basically saved their car. If you don't want to spend $40 now then you have to be prepared to spend thousands if you get water in your engine.

Just get the by pass valve or get Ram Air

Yes - better to be safe than sorry.
I too was lazy - put on the CAI before the bypass valve.
But in November I put on the bypass valve - took only 20 minutes... When the bay area was hit with the rain storms in DEC - there was no worries on my mind... I did avoid deep water puddles.
You may also want to drill some 1/8" holes on the piece of the plastic under where the OEM air resonator sat. I notice water and dirt accumulates there. I noticed the water accumulation under the AEM air filter after washing the car.
