A/C Air conditioning recharge

Is it possible to damage the A/C system with overcharging, or even undercharging? Can I top off my A/C unit with one can of refrigerant, or should I take it into a local garage?

As hot and muggy as it has been in Philly (and probably a good part of the rest of the country), my A/C doesn't seem to cool down the car, even with the fan cranked to the maximum and the temperature set at its lowest 60F. Today, with temperatures in the mid-80s, it wasn't that bad. Is this experience typical for anyone else?

I have a 2000 TL with 57,000 miles. Should I just bring the car in for its 60K maintenance and have the dealer take a look at my A/C system?

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum.

is there something wrong with your ac now? if you overcharge it, it wont work properly. if you undercharge it, it wont be as cold as it could be. i suggest you take it to someone if you dont know what your doing but if you do decide to charge it make sure you know which line is the low pressure.

I suggest you not try to charge it without a good set of gauges. Its very easy to overcharge the system in the TL. I just did this, and my AC stopped working altogether. I had to take some out before the compressor would kick on again.

no. first you need to find out how much pressure is in your system. if you have the right amount adding more isnt the answer. it will cause the system to not work.

how does changing the cabin filters help make the ac cool down the car better?

yes. the reason it probably feels cooler is because more air is able to go thru the filters. that would be the only reason
