Burnt smell.

Hey guys, I have alittle problem. Just recently this week I notice a burnt smell coming from the outside of my car. I notice it getting alittle stronger. I open up my hood to see if my car is overheating but everything seems to be normal from what I can see. The car is driving normal and the temper gauge is normal. I can sometimes smell it in the car sometimes. But it's noticable on the outside. What can it be? My light is on but, it was always on because I didnt get my o2 sensor replaced. I hope nothing is wrong with my car.

Same thing has happened to me recently, after I drive it hard usually. I'd like to know the answer to this as well!

now I'm not sure so dont quote me,But from what I have heard the burnt smell usually is transmission fluid burning........Which in turn is a symptom of tranny failure...........Have you noticed any slipping?? is your D5 lit up??

how long are u driving ur car for that period of time? r u braking hard? speeding? racing?

u can smell burning smell like that if ur racing, and braking hard, its just the heat building up on the tires/rotors/brakes. lol when i test drove the car from my friends dad's dealership/shop i booked it around for like 10-20 min hard braking and fast accel, and we pull in the shop and first thing he says was

u guys racing?

so tell me if its that, also hot temp outside will cause it to smell even worse. colder temps not so much...

I doubt it's my tranny, everything drives smoothly. I have warped rotors though. Can it be my battery? It looks old.

It never ceases to amaze me that people blame EVERY problem on the transmission. Next we'll be reading threads about clock lights going out and someone will be saying that's a sign of transmission failure.

Check to make sure you don't have anything stuck to any exposed parts of the engine or exhaust. Check under the car.

Hey guys, I think I know what it could be. I see some plastic stuck to the flex pipe of my headers. Imma clean it off and see if it still smells.

Yeah - I was going to guess a plastic bag picked up while driving.

The worst I ever heard about that was a bag that went into the radiator and ended up overheating the motor (big damage).

Never underestimate that little bag you ran over - make sure it comes out the other end...

As for the problem, does the smell smell like rubber or plastic? Most likely a bag or something
