Burnt out HID?

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between if your HID system is done or if its just the light?
I am thinking its the system, cause when i first turn my head lights on they both come on fine and aftere a few seconds, my driver side one dims out and turns this doll colour. Is this gonna be a expensive repair????

Re: Burnt out HID?

I think you need to replace your bulb. A new d2r bulb is under 100 bucks i think.

could be either your bulb or a balast going. im gonna guess on the balast. i dont think if it were a bulb that it would even come on if it was bad

this is a pretty bad pic, but you could sorta tell the driver side one is dimmer. It looks a lot worse live.

Same problem here! I'm gettin it fixed sometime this week.. My car was involved in a frontal collision and the driver headlight assembly was smashed so they replaced it. Once I let them know about the dim side, they said bring it in and they'll fix it, it wa something to do w/ wiring... Not the bulb...

Hey, AznBalla can you let me know what it is exactly. Also I have not been in a accident or anything, you think it can just get loose. I am thinking the HID system is not having enough power to keep the light lit.

Going to Acura today. They say its probably the light. I will let you guys know. I called one Acura and they said it could be the bulb, but its non refundable. I am going to a second one i called and they said they would try out a light and if its not it, they will do further research. Good guys.

when i got my light replaced from a front collision. the new bulb was not as bright as the old one.
apparently they didn't install a new ignitor/ballast and when the new part came in, there was no more difference.
The service mgr said that if that part was not changed the same time as the bulb, then the bulb would probably end up burning out.

I would have done this, but didn't wanna mess around with it. I have no idea how the HID system works and if its just like regular lights. I did do this at the Acura dealership though. They're awesome at the N. Shore one if anyone is from vancouver. They changed the light for me for 188 taxes in and no charge for labour. The old one is bluer but i think thats normal. WEll see how it turns out. I got 1 year warranty.
