Broken Fog Light Exchange?

I was thinking of trying to make some extra cash and at the same time help my fellow TL'ers out. I wanted to see how many of you guys here would be interested in swapping your chipped and cracked Fog Light Housings in for a fresh pair of Fog Housings that have been prepared with the LEXAN PLEXIGLASS material that is 200x more durable.

I would have people ship me their broken and cracked fog light housings... and I would ship them a pair of fogs prepared with LEXAN in return plus a fee for my Labor and time, which I haven't determined yet. I want to see how many people are interested in this first before I get myself involved in this. Please feel free to give me suggestions as well.

I feel by doing this.. it will make it a lot easier for people to just replace their broken fogs w/o having to go to the dealer or buying new housings that cost maad loot. This is also a time saver for many of you's. College kid trying to make some extra cash.

Let me know.

Raj

Just wanted to add one more thing if its not clear. I am not shipping you back your original fog housings, I will already have a pair of fog housing prepared, so as soon as I recieve your package, I will ship your's out. I figure this will make many people happy on saving time. I will guarantee that the fog housing your recieving is in good and working condition w/ no visual blemishes. And of course.. I will guarantee against water leakage. I will aslo be able to change color of fogs to Yellow if desired for small fee (only to cover cost of material).

What are you going to do w/ the broken fogs?

Are we supposed to drive w/o fog lights covers?

If you were to sell just the lenses as well as offering the replacement service, you would have a cottage industry that would boom.

I would be interested in lenses, but would prefer to install myself-I am a car freak-, as would many of the other car freaks on the site.

If you know the price, that would be a good start. It seems as though there is demand.

I assume what he will do is give you someone else's fog housing, and then use yours to be fixed and re-sold to another fellow TL user of this forum. It's a good idea since you would be saving loads of money if you were to go to the dealer and have it replaced.

Well, I can say this, I have a broken foglight lens and I would like it repaired, but I know that the OEM part is way expensive, so I am open to alternatives and options if i think its a good value. BTW- I like the fact you live in NY, its close to me in CT, so the shipping for me would be less expensive as opposed to someone in Cali or Fla.

My fog light was cracked by a stone just two weeks after I bought the car. Currently I just have some clear packaging tape over the hole to keep water off the bulb. Send us more info, pricing etc......so we can get our new lights.

Alright... it seems that this board has been responsive to this idea. I will start working out prices and post it up in a little bit. I obviously want to charge reasonable, but at the same time it should also be worth my time as well. For those of you's requesting just the lens, I dont know if that way will be any cheaper, since most of the labor and time goes to trimming and sanding the lens. Mounting it onto the fog itself requires the least amount of time. But I would work out a price for you guys as well.

Thank You for the suggestions that are being offered, and feel free to offer more.

And yes, I will be shipping back someone else's housing to you that has been prepared with the LEXAN, and I will keep yours for the next person. This allows me and you to make time effecient. However, I can also prepare yours if you want as well, but it will take more time obviosly.

I will post prices up by tonite, I am waiting to see if I can get the LEXAN material at a better price that might help you guys save extra bux. Also, can anyone tell me how much the Fog Housing will weigh in box, so that I can estimate shipping? Like I said I want to be reasonable.

Just remember, if you're going to sell something you need to post it in the For Sale/Wanted forum, not here. This thread can stay open for those that have questions or want more info but post prices in the other forum.

Thanks.

Alright guys... I have the price of the Lens itself only. I see that there is more of a demand just for the Lens itself. I have to to tell you...that cutting Lexan is maad haaard!! Its not that easy. The dremel does only so much and the dremel bits keep breaking off. Ne wayz... PM me for those of you who are still interested. For the first person to go ahead and get them done I will eat some of the cost so this way that person can tell you the experience he had with the transaction. Just to get things going.

The lens will be made of Lexan and will be cut precisely. All you will have to do is silicone it in. Very simple. No sanding neccessary as all the grunt work has already been done.
