My source at my local acura deal told me when i was looking at buy a 2002 TL-S that a new Tl would be coming out in march-april of 2003. He told me that he didnt know what the changes would be but he suspected they would be very minimal. i currently own a lexus gs300 and i have no problem driving that until march just to see waht the new one looks like, plus around that time the all new infiniti g35 is schedueled to come out, which shopuld be worth a look too.

2003 bud, not 2002 which happens after this Dec. 31st.

I would like to continue to enjoy my 2002 TL-S for around 7-9 more years. Then I will think about getting a new car. Enjoy what you have because not everyone has it.

Once again, right in line with normal 5 year cycle...

3 model years... a mild refresh for 2 more...

1999,2000,2001...2002,2003

All new 2004. Is this such a shock?

It would be pretty un-Hondalike for them to do a fairly extensive refresh (2002) and then replace the entire line the next year. Frankly, this is good news for me as I'll be in a good position to trade for a redesigned 2004 if I like what they've done. I just hope the 2004 model is as or more attractive than the current ones (which I love). Availability of a manual transmission would be kickass as well. Let's hope Honda has been listening...

I've been saying this since day1. The newly restyled TL will be a 2004 model, not 2003. I didn't have any inside sources, but simply looked at it from a business stand point. I'm in the marketing field and in terms of sales and mktg it would be stupid to completely redesign the TL after the 2002 refresh. Reason being is that many ppl (primarily the common less informed aka people who aren't members of this site) still look at the 2002 as being brand new and redesigned and Acura can make a lot more money by keeping the same desing for one more yr and squeezing extra sales out of the popular "new" design. Then, in 2004 hit us up with the new TL and start the buying frenzy all over again.

Agreed. I was saying the same things. It was only common sense that the new TL was out as a '04 model. Everyone gets so excited whenever the rumors get going, plus, if you read something online at motortrend.com or something... it must be true!! :P Seriously though, I think when people read that a new TL was out in 2003 they were thinking it was a 2003 model, rather then that it was going to be released in 2003 (as an '04).....

Are you guys saying that there won't be an edition of our car until 2003 and that will be a 2004 model? Seems weird that they would go two years without some changes. Is there not going to be a 2003 model? Maybe I don't get it.

Actually, if previous posts are correct, the 2003 is coming out in February or March of 2002. The changes are supposed to include the availability of Anthracite on the TL-S and OnStar on Navi equipped models. Other changes are still up in the air.

i guess the 03 model is bare minimuim.... think of it as the 01 model... it only has child seats buckels and deeper cup holder and they call it another year.

Question

Hello everyone,

This is truely breaking news but i will take it with a pinch of salt. Not saying Snook's resource is not credible or anything like that, but honestly do you guys believe there is a TL prototype present already? why would Honda wants to build it so early?! No particular reason comes to my mind. Sorry, but I am not gonna believe this until I see the pics. Just my opinion.

It takes several YEARS to design a new model. Prototypes are commonly built this far ahead of actual launch... they've got to do testing somehow. Unless they were just revamped this year, I'd say Honda is working, at least in some capacity, on the replacements for every "new" model available at the dealer right now.

Yeah, I had a high school teacher whose brother was an engineer for Honda and I remember her telling me once that he had just finished building the prototype for the next accord model that didn't come out for 2 years or so.

Honda should test out the new TL prototype as early as possible, especially putting lots of mileage on the powertrain. We don't want to see the transmission that's prone to fail again in the new car.

great...

i will keep my car for at least 4-5 years...then get the new TL...

no need to rush for the new model...since honda likes to put the high performance model a couple yrs after the new car...

and u can avoid the first production yr problems...
