Brand New and in need of info

Hay all I am a new memeber to the club. I am interested in purchasing a new TL-s but not sure if it is worth buy the 03 or waiting for the 04 to drop. I will be going to the NY auto this weekend to check the concept out to see if anything about it catchs my eye..

I know very little about cars so alot of this slang in the forums is confusing to me. (indeed i am really a newbie) what if any help could any one provide to as far as making my first purchase and also mods (i know what this mean) that what be nice and not to complicated for a complete novice.

Well lets see
03 Type-S
1)Can get cheaper then sticker price since 04 is coming out
2)There will be no 2004 TL-S (but I'm sure the horsepower will be the same or higher)

04 TL (Acura said it will most likely include the following)
1)Newer look (well duh)
2)Bluetooth wireless telephone
3)XM Radio
4)DVD 5.1 Audio player
5)Voice Navi (GPS)
If you want those things it will be worth waiting for the 04.

As for mods. What kind are you looking for? Visual? Performance?

And welcome to the fourm

Visual and performance.. (performance especially). visual things like rims (will 19" fit) and what is the best tire.. oh man there is so much i need to know i can't type it. i keep see I/H/E... not quite sure what that is but i'm thinking Cold air Intake, Headers and Exhaust? Y is exhaust so important and would does it really do, how much of a difference does it make as as far as performance

19 will fit but might need some slight modification but just go with 18 since that looks good already. Best tires, I perfer the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. I/H/E = Intake/Header/Exhaust. Intake I have no experience with so some1 can answer that. Headers will get you a very modest gain on a Type-S (around 30hp). Exhaust are NOT important. They won't get you any big gain in hp (only around 1-2 hp at most). Exhaust are for looks in my option and you're better off buying the 3A racing exhaust tips if you want the exhaust to look more aggressive. So performance wise I would def. do the header (comptech headers are very well design but cost a lot 1000+ when I got them) (There are other headers made for our car is the OBX headers (~400) and thats way less then half the price of the comptech but I'm still not sure on quality and fitting of these. Other visual you can get for 03 TL would be the under body kits. Acura has the OEM underbody kit, Wing West has some for the TL (better looking in my option).

You need to figure out which wheels and tires combo you want first then figure out how much drop you want.

Get the '03; never buy the first production run on a new generation... it took Acura until the October 2002 production to get the tranny problems fixed that were inherent to that generation.

Incorrect the 99 TL was the second generation and it wasn't included in the extended warranty because there are hardly any tranny problems with the 99 TL. The tranny problems started when acura put a 5 speed tranny in starting with 2000 TL and continuing until early 2003.

But yeah I agree with you. The first buyers of the 2004 TL will kinda be like guinnea pigs and have to answer a lot of questions about the fit and finish - squeeks, warped rotors, trannys ect. It's best to wait.
