Brand new Mercedes S430 is challenging me to race.

Guy at my work just bought one and he is saying his car is soo fast and is saying he would blow my car away no problem. What do you guys think? Should I race him?

I looked on the Mercedes website and it says 0-60 in 6.9 seconds.

How many ponies does the Type S have?

It only puts out 275 poines, the S430, and its much bigger and heavier. MB advertises their 0-60 times as 6.9 but Motortrend put something like 7.3. I don't think a Type S will have much trouble beating it.

MB must have upped the HP on the S430, because last I checked it was 225.

Even if it is 275, you've got to think about how big and heavy the Sclass is, which should give the TL, and especially a TLS, a very big advantage.

I luuuuvvvv the S class though.

Merecedes are as heavy as lead turds. go for it. unless it's an AMG, you're pretty much ok. even vs. an AMG my friend held his own in his 2002 TLS when he bought it in late 2001. let us know how it goes.

You'll beat him if you're stock and you'll smoke him if you're modded (headers, cai, etc.). That car is not slow but what kills it is the weight. By the time he really gets going, he'll already lose too much ground to make up. Just one thing, make sure you don't race him over 110 mph. First of all, it's stupid and not safe. Secondly, it'll resemble something of a ricer flyby assuming both of you guys have the pedal to the metal. That's what low hp output V8 engines are good for.

very true. my friend said the AMG quickly began to walk away from him at 115 + mph.

My uncle bought the S500 because he said the S430 felt underpowered. This was coming from an E320 so take it for what it's worth.

P.S. You've already won, or should I say, the other guy has already lost due to the fact that he has spent $80k on a car and yet still feels insecure enough to challenge your Type S LMAO.

In that case you should be able to take him in a short race.

Although as a new owner of brand new s430, why is he so concerned about racing a TLS. Does he want to justify the money he spent on a s class by beating an acura? I mean if he wanted a fast car, why didn't he just buy a vette.

Because he is cocky and competetive and thinks his car is soo fast.

go for it. that thing doesnt stand a chance whether starting from a stop or a rolling start. those mb's are heavvyyy as hell.

also i dont see why someone that has just spent like 75k on a higher-class luxury sedan would want to "race" you to make himself feel better about his waste of money. hahah tell us how it went after you pwn him!

If I ever got a MB, I'd make sure it had enough power (S500 or AMG written somewhere in the rear). I know exactly the type of people BoJangles is talking about. They spent a good amount of money on a high end car but have trouble shelling out the extra $10-20k for the higher output engine (S500). Then they have trouble swallowing the fact that their car is not fast for the amount they spent. It's like in the old days when people would buy the Infiniti G20 and brag about driving an Infiniti when all it was was a car that competed with a top of the line Civic.

Imagine the mods you can do with $40k+ to match what he paid....hell for that much you can do an S-class body conversion and maybe even drop in his V8!
