Brake Light Switch & Cruise Controla

I have a 2000 3.2 TL with about 90k miles on it and recently experienced the shifter being stuck in park. I called the local dealer and the Service Advisor said it was probably the brake light switch and quoted a price of around $200 to replace the switch. I found a switch at my local O'reilly auto parts store and replaced the switch in about 5 minutes. The shifter now worked as well as the brake lights so I thought I was good to go. However, a week or so later I discovered my cruise control would not engage. I again called the dealer and they told me I needed to get an "official" OEM switch from them and the problem was the non-OEM switch. Has anyone else had this problem? Can you offer any advice besides taking it to the dealer?

Thanks

It may not be adjusted properly? It may be to tight and making enough contact to cause the cruise to not turn on. If that doesnt work

you can get the oem unit here
Look under Pedal
Part #3 for 28 dollars

Brake Light Switch & Cruise Control

You are correct, I inspected my installation and adjusted the switch down to make sure it was fully actuated when the brake pedal was at rest. This fixed the problem as the switch actually has two points of actuation. When you barely press the brake pedal (as you would when you wanted just to disengage the cruise control and not actually apply the brakes) that doesn't turn the brake lights on. You have to press the brake pedal more to engage the brakes. This feature allows you to disengage the cruise without turning on your brake lights which might cause another driver to think you were braking. Pretty good engineering on Acura's part and something I would have never thought about.

Thanks for your input.

thats the stealth mode for slipping out of cruise when you suspect ~danger~ from behind- no brake lights- no intent to slow down
