Body Kit Install
Ok here a quick question! Last week I went to order my under body spoiler kit from Acura.......... They quoted me 5.5 hours to install the kit at $80 an hour that $440 to install the kit thats almost half its cost..... I told the guy forget it............
I was wondering are they right does it really take 5.5 hours to install this 4 piece kit ?
What Have your local dealers quoted you ?

My dealer is Davis Acura in Langhorne, PA. They use a local body shop to do most body and paint work for the cars from the dealership. I had the OEM kit and spoiler quoted at 4 hours for kit and 1 hour for spoiler and the total was $250($50/hour). I thought that was expensive but I was in a rush to get it installed so I didn't shop around. If you don't want to do it yourself...just find a reputable shop to do it. They will probably charge you $30-$40 per hour at most. The dealer's hourly rate is a ripoff and not worth the cost....especially for something like a bodykit.

Well, not everyone knows this...but they don't charge by how many hours it ACTUALLY takes them to do it. They charge by the amount of time "THAT IT WOULD TAKE" to install it. This is the same way with your local auto/body shops.
Let's say the you come in to Acura to get 4 new tires...mount and balance...well, they take a look at their "rate book" and tells them that it usually takes 1 hour to do this...so at $75 / hour, they will charge you $75. Lets say the technican works really really fast and finishes it in 30 min, they will still charge you $75 for 1/2 hour work. But now the technican has the other 1/2 hour to do customers jobs...you see how it works?
My friend works at pep-boys he told me this. So the faster you work...the more money you make! Well, 5.5 hours is out ragous...but it take about 2-3 hour of our time...so the dealer woulud charge about 3-4 hours of work.
I got my headers installed this week...most people say it takes 1.5-2 hours of work... I call most Acura dealers and local auto shops..they keep quoting me for 4-5 hours of work.

Here's what you have to keep in mind. Are you ready/willing to drill into the front lip of the car to install this?
I bought the painted kit from this website and installed it myself. The side skirts are a piece of cake. You basically pop the OEM ones off and install the new ones.
The rear kit requires a bit more finesse since you have to mount it in the pre-fabbed locations left for us by Acura.
The front spoiler is a whole different beast. You set it in place and then have to drill all of the mounting locations yourself. Afterwards, you simply screw it in.
Mr. Hyde has left some incredibly helpful instructions on how to do all of this in the FAQ section of this website. Initially I was going to post pics of my installation process but I realized it was so easy that what he had done should be sufficient.
It all boils down to whether or not you have the cajones to drill into your $30K car. I can tell you from my experience that this was a very easy install BUT YMMV.
My dealer wanted close to $1500 to install the painted body kit. I did it for @ $923 using the kit I bought from this website. It took me about 3 - 4 hours to complete. Most of it bolts right on. The only place you'll have to get creative is the front lip. It's really not that big of a deal. It will sit perfectly in place and you can drill the mounting holes without any help. After that, it simply screws on.
Good luck with whatever method you choose.
If you decide you also want to install the rear spoiler yourself, here is my documentation of how I did so:

I don't think it's that hard to drill in your front bumper...attach the front lip...there is double sided tape to hold itself onto the bumper...after you attached, u just drill where the mounting points are. Even if you screw up...u can't see it anyways
