Checkout the DIY section and only use OEM Acura atf.

You change it using the drain and top-up method, just like a regular oil change. But it takes 3 drains of 3 liters each to drain out most of the fluid. And its best to do each drain several weeks apart so the tranny can slowly acclimate to the new introduction fluid, otherwise you risk slippage problems.

Use the DW-1 fluid from honda or acura, whichever is sold cheaper. Always top up on a level surface between the marks...about 3 bottles.

You will need a breaker bar to loosen that drain bolt the first time. Hand tighten with a wrench or ratchet, ...do not overtighten or you risk stripping the aluminum threads.

And don't forget to change the black cylindrical tranny filter sitting on top of the tranny under the air intake hose. See the detailed diy for this.

I agree, with 180kmile on trans stay with HONDA DW-1 atf
the trans will only drain 3 to 3.4 us qts at a time
total capacity is 7
depending on current fluid age and condition you may want to do 1 times (x) 3 qts
and see how it reacts

see the many fluid and trans failure threads for info
also see threads on new member for lots of tips
Are you having any slipping or shudder in shifting?

engine oil- any brand oil is fine, stay with 5-30 for most areas

www.owners.acura.com register with cars VIN get free download of owner manual
with diy fluid change info there and good tips

welcome to acurazine!
the `new official diy list`- link is 3rd item down this main area list- your new buddy!!

the owner manual gives the CORRECT way to ck fluid level in trans--its not normal!

if the trans is near death a full change of all fluid -the 3x3- will put the last nail in the coffin
If all is well, all new fluid at once wont hurt

BEST thing to do as a new owner is drain 3 ounces of atf and send to blackstone labs (look up online) with 20 bucks for a mass spectrograph reading of the fluid
they will tell you if anything bad is happening inside the trans or not
money well spent

Worst thing to do = add trans purr of any type!!! very picky transmission
use only honda dw1

I gotta try that sending the fluid to have it checked thing. That would be very helpful. I'm doing the 3X3 next month, so excited!

sheesh not exactly my usual Chevyland when doing a filter and fluid change on the Acura i guess lolol . I checked with my usual -- Valvoline which claims their maxlife is excellent for the Acura ,, but if I understand you ll correctly you are saying the Honda or Acura branded only . I have to ask being a lifelong Valvoline fella of 50 years, if the standard is met, which it is , by either one..why would the Valvoline be risky? Not being argumentative here as I am perfectly willing to buy the Honda branded or whatever if needed.. just curious is all ..thanks
