Bent Lift Point.

I noticed the other day that the lift point on the front passenger side was completely bent. I took the car to the dealership and basically they rebent the lift point back to what its suppose to look like originally. Has this ever happened to anyone? My car is an 03 tl with barely 10k miles. Any input?

what the hell is the lift point?

is this the point at which the back part and the butt part meet?

No I think he is saying the little metal things that you use when you jack up the car.. On the driver and passenger sides..

bent lift point

If you're talking about the wheeljack point on the passenger side, it normally happens to members who change their own oil. Sounds bizarre for it to happen at only 10k miles ... unless you're car has been up a long time on that jack point (ie it's only supposed to be used when you change the tire .... approx 5-10 minutes?) As you well know, our cars are quite front heavy (front engine, FWD) so putting all that weight on such a small area = something's gonna give!

If you don't do your own oil, then I wouldn't know why it would be bent. I've painted my calipers and in the spring put on my 'new' summer tires/rims (see my sig) and I don't anticipate the jack points to bend.

One word of advice: axle stands. Put the weight of the front part of your car on the axle stand as opposed to the jack point if you're gonna change your oil or do work on the under part of your car. A little more work but will save yourself a lot of problems in the future!

unless you are using a jack with a 2' lift pad it shouldnt bend! ive been changing my oil for 132,000 miles now and havent come close to bending them. ive left my car on jackstands over night and havent bent them. thats why i dont know how some have bent them. its DESIGNED to support the weight oof the car. its a lift point

Yeah - those jack points are the toughest/thickest I've had on any car I've ever owned.

Did you take it to a shop that mistreated it? Perhaps they didn't raise the car correctly?

Heh, I bent mine when I spun out and went into ditch, hitting a big ass sewer pipe. I'll probably take it to a body shop and have them bend it back or weld a new one on. Bent metal has less strength integrity and will bend again.

It was bent about 80 degrees, and I still jacked up the car on it. It didn't bend any further, although I fully expected it to give. It's a tough sum*****. It shouldn't bend, unless a shop lifted your car wrong or you hit something really hard.

I believe I might have bent the lift point while doing my first oil change. However it seems strange that something like that would happen. My main concern is the next time I do an oil change, what if the lift point were to bend and thus causing the vehicle to shift and maybe even drop? What are you thoughts on that.

You know what it sounds like happened? Sounds like someone drove the car up on one of those ramp lifts, and then accidentally drove the tire off of it, dropping the car on the ramp. That would be my guess.

I use ramps to change the oil on my TL. You need to watch it on a lowered car (ramps probably wouldn't work), but on a stock height TL it shouldn't be an issue.

My ramps rub slightly when I put them under the front end. It's really no big deal. Nobody looks at that 1 square inch that the ramp rubbed on - it's under the car.

The funny thing is that when I showed the dealer the bent lift point, he told me that he has never seen anything like that... Which leads me to conclude that something "traumatic" must have happened to my car in order to bend the lift point. And when I say bend, I mean the metal plate is parallel with the underside of the vehicle. This is not a lemon by any chance is it?

When I was rotating the tires, I tried to lift the whole side of the car by placing my jack at a midpoint on the rail. Big mistake - the rail stated to bend in. Take care folks.

Be careful not to ruin your alignment (or possibly bend the frame) by being lazy and using one jack point.

Be sure of what you're doing. You've got a lot of money invested in your car!

Its not unique, it happened to me too. I was using a hydraulic jack and my front passenger jack point "imploded" too so its literally 90 degrees of where it used to be. (ie. pointing sideways instead of up/down)... apparently its not that uncommon, when I posted the same thing a few months ago quite a few people had the same problem. I use jack stands as well as the jack when I lift the car up .. Don't think its necessarily from abuse or misuse of the jack point, I think its just that the jack point isn't really made to be used with those kindof jacks, its meant to be used with the jack that comes with the car.

Odd. I can still fit the scissor jack underneath my car -- kit w/ H&R Sports.

With hydraulic jacks, I slide it in between the side skirt and the tire. Then I slide it sideways. It would never fit directly forward. I would screw up the body kit. :o It's not fun, but it doesn't bother me. You've gotta make sacrifices.

Dealer did not charge me anything to fix it. I assume this can be categorized as a "warranty" related problem.. I am not sure
