Battery Suggestion?

So..i have a 02' TL-S and have not been driving it for quite some time now. So..this weekend i tried to start it..and bam...didn't happen. Tried to recharge it..didn't work. Battery is OEM and dead.

SOOO...i'm looking for a new battery for the car.

Duralast. Have anybody heard of this?

http://www.autobatteries.com/selecto...ar=30&brand=44

It seems to be pretty reputable and hopefully it's at a decent price. Since I don't kno much about batteries and whatnot...which one should I be getting?

1. Duralast 24-6NS 550 6 YEAR LINE 24 ( Part #, CCA, Model Name, Group Size)

2. Duralast 24-D 700 DURALAST 24 ( Part #, CCA, Model Name, Group Size)

Also..if you have any other brand suggestions..please feel free to list em or reply with it. Thanks in advance.

Not 100% sure but I think that might be the brand of batteries they sell at wal-mart. If you want just a normal battery then I would just go to wal-mart and get one. They are cheaper then most places same warranty and I have 2 of thier batteries and they have been working fine. I even left the yellow truck battery out in the vegas heat for a few months and it cranked fine when I put it back in my truck. If you want a deep cycle get an odyssey or an optima. I have heard Cosco has good prices on batteries but not sure I have never been in there.

As soon as my battery goes bad, I will be getting a red top Optima battery. I recommend this battery to anyone. It might be pricey but it is worth it. All my past cars have had an Optima install. I also ran high watt stereo systems. works very well. Hope this helps, Good Luck

The best deal would be at Costco.

Yea , when i did the search through this board about batteries, Optima was always mentioned and it has been mentioned throughout all the boards i have seen in regards to batteries. But, i dunno if all that money spent on the batter would be put to good use. I mean..i don't have a system, and i live in a fair weather area so cold starts would not be a problem (bay area). It seems like the people with Optima batteries are the ones hooking up their cars with systems or modding it? Is that true? My perception is a battery is a battery..as long as it has a good rep..and I've always seen duralast everywhere.

Noob Question: What makes Optima batteries better than the rest?

TIA

The optima batteries are sealed so you don't have to fill them with water. A normal battery will start the car too. IMO not worth it in your case unless like you said you have alot of high power accessories like a stereo system.

I have an optima in my car. I put one in my wifes truck first, and when she left the lights on all night long, I didn't think it would start. sure enough it started. I highly recomend these batteries. Might seem pricey, but it's well worth it.

I think costco lets you return batteries even if they have been used. I returned one once and was given a cash card for the value of the battery. You could always try the regular costco battery and if its not good enough just return it for a optima.

Walmart actually makes EverStart batteries and from a Consumer Reports comparison it rated pretty well. I cant remember exactly, but I think it got something like 'best overall performance for value' or somethin like that. They are definitely a lot more inexpensive than some others, but I think they still work good. I put one in my 01 4Runner and havent had any problems with it. If your going to run a (stereo) system or something Id probably go with an Optima.

optima red top ... costco for about $120 ... 3 year full warranty ... then next 3 years are pror-rated. Make sure you get the one with the cover so you can use it as a base to get the correct height. Battery cover even fits w/o any mods.

Optima is the best out there! I had the Optima blue top in my previous car (yes I know it's for boats), and it was awesome!

Quick Update...

Yea..don't really have the money for OPtima so I ended going to autozone and got everlast. So far so good. BUT, I can't seem to find where the code is for the radio. I know you guys discussed this before on this board but may as well ask it here.

check the little pouch/binder where your manual is, there should be a card there with the code on it

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I heard on here that it's like the last 6-7 numbers of the serial number on the back of the radio.

They probably have to pull it out and look at the serial number to give you the code since what they gave you ddn't work. Labor= Greenbacks.

Reset The Antenna

All they have to do is reset your antenna. I don't know what the problem is with these radio codes, but I have my code and I entered it a shitload of times and it still won't turn the radio back on. Everytime you disconnect your battery, this will happen. The stealership charged me $100 for a diagnostic when my knock sensor wire was chewed by a rat or mouse. So luckily, they reset it for me for free. Another thing you might wanna try is pull into a parking garage with no radio reception, and try resetting it there. I'm not sure if it works, but that is a floating rumor. Good luck.

i think it should be a group 35 battery, with the standard automotive posts (terminals)

If you have good reason for an Optima battery, then it is a good one. If you just need a battery to start the car, any normal known brand will work for you. Don't waste money on optima if you don't use it for what it was built for. Optima battery do fail just like any other normal battery, and their warranty is not that good neither. I have both yellow and red, they both failed in 3 years. Optima costs more than twice the normal batteries, and worst they are ways more heavier than a normal battery. If you just have a normal stereo system, the normal battery will handle it for hours just well. I recall it's 34/78

Thanks I think I'll go with what Consumer Reports said. I think that's what I had in my Civic. Now I have a TL and its taking a little longer to turn over.

ck batteries plus,,franchises everywhere
tested my 01s 5 year old costco batt and found 335 cca,,not very good =reason for slow cranking,,harder starting

$70-80 for the good or better replacement, or $45 for the `blemished` batt with broken minor edge thing- that has no effect on case sealing, fit or performance, and still came with some warranty!!
Its worth asking at any battery place if they have a blem in your size, if the budget is tight...I had two vehicles need batts the same day,,they took pity on me

I recommend XS Power Batteries. They are a AGM deep cycle battery, but far far superior to Kinetik. They have several different models. I have the smaller D5100 which puts out 1600 amps. It powers my system and my car with absolutely zero issues. They are not cheap. The D5100 I got was around $250-275 which is about $80.00 more than a yellow top, but it's twice as powerful.

Optima like Sealed batterys- Why

The reason I like the sealed batteries like the optima is that your battery terminals / clamps don't corrode. The liquid ones vent some sort of corrosive which causes that junk to grow on your terminals and clamps- even with those little felt washer thingies. And some people even coat their terminals with grease- I guess that prevents corrosion just fine, but it is messy, especially if you ever give / get a jump.

cool story bro
ive used walmart and autozone batteries in different cars and with decent audio systems (1000watt sub amp and 1000watt mid/high amp) with a capacitor and they hold up ok.. but thats because i was always too cheap to go with optima batteries.. my next battery will be optima or equivalent.

+1 Optima Red Top... previous owner put it in over 5 years ago and it's still going

I've had great luck in past vehicles with AC Delco (even found one to fit my BMW), but I've heard anecdotally that the quality has dropped. And I always buy the most CCA I can get.

Was looking at the Optima Red Top for my 2002 tl-s. The Optima terminals are on the opposite side (top view) than the battery I have. Not sure if I had enough slack in the cables, so went with a battery that has the terminals in the normal position (Duralast Platinum 34). May be that I didn't pull on the cables hard enough to see what the total slack I had would be, just didn't want to take the chance.

One thing I do know is that I will never buy another freaking Die Hard or deal with Sears automotive again.
