battery blown up!!
I tried to start my 2000 TL this morning and when I turn the key, the hood pops up!!!!!!!:wow: :wow:
Then everything stop working, no power no nothing!!! I open up the hood and the battery is cracked while acid flows out with smoke!!!!
My car was over 50K and that battery is not covered under warranty anyway!!!! Did any one know why that happened?!

Your battery blew up??? Batteries are not supposed to blow up. If there is damage to your car, I suggest you take it to an Acura dealer and start yelling at them. I'm sure they will help you out...

I never heard of that.
I would definitly have the electrical system looked at by the dealer before putting in a new battery.
Maybe the alternator over charged it.

I actually parked next to a repair shop, and the owner told me he's been working on cars for 23 years, that's the 3rd time he saw this!!!
It didn't hurt the car - I hope!! But I'll have to pay for a new battery!! And have to worry about rusting since acid splash on some parts of the car!!! Is there a rust warranty from Acura that will deal with this!!??

Warranty on rust is 5 years/unlimited mileage.

wchan01 - Did you ever check the acid level in the battery? (I know - it's supposed to be "maintenance free") In any event, Acura batterys have a 4 year warranty that's prorated after the second year. Check with the dealer; I don't know if they cover the "acid washing down the engine bay" damage.

ouuu dang!! I'd be pissing my pants if that happened to me! now that you're okay and you're getting reimbursed.. I think its safe for me to chuckle a little because it did sound funny after I imagined it. I apologize for finding humor at your expense.

I've seen batteries blow up before. It's caused from an internal short, usually from no water in the battery, or overcharging. I've also watch someone put on jumper cables on backward, let me tell you that aint no joke. Like two seconds later, smoke for blocks, the handles that connect to the batteries were red hot, and the jumper cables were melted. Crazy shiat.

The lock for the hood is loosen..... but the shop told me to flush the surrounding area with baking soda solution, and flush again with water, since acid is bad and will rust the metals!!
I did it and when the solution readched where the acid splashed, it's like alka seltzer!!!! bubbles everywhere!! It took me almost 1 hour to really get it done!!

wow, well if the contacts were exposed to the air a collection of hyrdogen gas could have been formed near them and when you tried to start the car that pocket of gas exploded. my dads a surgeon and has treated a few people that had their car battery explode on them, but they all had been working on the car and had left the battery disconnected and terminals exposed for long periods of time, and the battery exploded when they reconnected it. never heard of it happening from starting a car though, glad you weren't injured

I'm not surprised. AC Delco batteries have a habit of doing this. A GMC Yukon in the family had 4 batteries blow (and 4 sets of hoods, fenders, brake lines, etc) before they put in a Excide guy.
