Avoiding Speeding Tickets
As you may or may not know, the state of VA is the only state left in the country that you cant use radar detectors (legally). Does anyone know of any detectors that: A. arent detectable or B. Work really well . Thanks,

Radar Detector Detectors work by detecting the LO (Local Oscillator) frequency used by your radar detectors. I'm sure that radar manufacturers can either shield their RF sections or use a different LO frequency which falls outside the detector detector's range.
Of course, you can always get a radar detector detector detector which will detect the detector detector's LO frequency as well, then you can turn your detector off.

You will have to look in older car magizines, but there use to be a company called Rocky Mountian Radar. Their units were designed to send out a percentage of your speed or you can preset a given MPH that will be picked up by Radar. Good luck.. let me know...THE CROZ

That Rocky Mountain Radar thing is the Phazer and the Phantom or something like that. In another thread, someone said that both are junk and don't work. They are supposed to be jammers, but I guess there are others that are better or actually work. Most radar detectors these days have VG2 stealth capability which means they have radar detector detector detectors. When the d-d-d detects a d-d it will shut off the radar detector. Obviously if this happens you will slow down because someone ahead has a detector detector and waiting to nab you.

I got an idea!

The Valentine 1 is practically undetectable to the VG2 radar detector detector. You should always cut power to the detector when the man is nearby. Any superheterodyne circuit acts as small transmitter - it is a question of shielding and layout as to how detectable it is.
I have had a detector (Escort 1978), now V1) of some sort since 1978, and have had no sppeding tickets in that time!
I also lobbied the State Assembly successfully when the DMV tried to assess 3 points for possession of a detector! We stopped it (you are welcome).
Think about it - even if you get nabbed with the unit, you get it back, and the fine is paltry compared to speeding tickets, surcharges for insurance, etc.
I do not believe in driving recklessly in crowded areas, but speed enforcement in many cases is about revenue. I prefer to fill my pockets, not LE or the powerful Va. insurance lobbyists.

I have been researching detectors and in at least 4 articles they state that the Rocky Mountain Radar is complete BS, a total waste of money. FYI

Yup... I had one and sold it on eBay. Complete Junk. I saw a video tape that tested abour 12 different detectors and jammers and only two worked and they were pretty $$$$. Just don't speed and you won't have a problem!!

Generally, the Valentine One and the Escort Passport 8500 are considered the best with some others being a very close second. I have an 8500 and have been very happy with it.
Regarding use in VA, does anyone know if the detectors are confiscated on the spot if caught using it?
