Automatic Transmission Question

Is it possible to shift from neutral to reverse, while your car is moving forward ~30mph?

Are there any mechanism to prevent that from happening?

What kind of damages to transmission?

thanks

You can shift from D to N when driving.
try to practice that so when ur tranny blows, you can quickly execute it and gain some control over the car.
But shifting form D to R is a

you can't shift from N to R because it has a shift lock when the car is over 5 or 10 mph so u cant shift it to R from N...they made it like that for saftey purposes...

Yes, you can't move the stick into reverse from neutral when you're doing more than 5 or 10mph or so. Next time you're driving, put it in Neutral when you're slowing down. Turn off everything you can to make it as quiet as possible. Once you slow down past 10mph or so, you'll hear a click, that's the lock releasing so you can shift into Reverse. You can put the stick in Neutral and keep trying to push it to the right (not into reverse but in that general direction according to the shift gate. You have to move the stick to the right and then up to go from N to R...just move it to the right but not up.) and you'll notice when the lock is there and when you slow down enough, you'll notice the lock releasing.

Nothing wrong from a mechanical stand. The Negative is you give up some time if you need to stomp on it and get out of someone's way if you need to (like avoid getting rear ended or something similar)
