Auto Up/down for Pax side.

I have this idea for an endeavor and I though I would throw it out here to get some advice, or a better direction.

I would like to modify my passenger window so that it can auto up/down like the drivers side.

I know this may take some extensive modification of the driver's console as well.

Has anyone tried this on their TL's?
Does anyone know where I can see an electrical schematic online (for free :-))?
Parts? Is there a special sensor for the driver door - or a different motor with integrated electronics for the auto-up sensor?

When I move into my new house, I will definetely look more into this. The thought crossed my mind so right now I am trying to gather as much info as I can.

I have a 2002 TL type S. Love every second behind the wheel! (Except when the battery took a dump 2 weeks ago, but...)

Good point, Dizzy, but if you notice on the switch cluster on the driver's side, only one switch says "Auto" and has a special detent. To do this mod I would need two switches like that. Or maybe just one more - I dont care if the passenger has to hold the button, I'm the sole occupant most of the time anyway! lol...

But You provide a good point. Im sure they dont creat different window motors. Probably just a module that plugs inline to provide this feature. It would be easier and cheaper from an engineering standpoint to creat one module and keep all the motors the same or create 2 different motor units that can only be applied to half the market.

I didnt think of that! Thanks!

this should be a very simply mod. and shouldnt cost more than like 200 dollars. ive heard that some rsx's have done this, since they only have two windows. so check out clubrsx.com..

Dude, if you're gonna spend $200 on that, just go out and buy a Clifford/Viper alarm and get the Smartwindows module.

I agree with NSXNEXT, just a DEI 529T, and install that module for your passenger window. It will give you auto up and down on that side. Cost of moudule is like 30 bux. For that price you can convert all windows auto up and down. and then buy one DEI 530T and hook up both rear windows to it, to make that auto up and down. While your at it, what about the sunroof too!!

Well, those are good suggestions, but I want it to look and function as close as Honda/acura designed the dirver window - with the rocker switch that has detents that go further to engage the auto up/down.

I imagine the 529T or the 530T wont allow for that neat feature.

It shouldnt be that bad since I only want to add the switch to the driver's side, not the passenger.
I know it will cost more going with Acura parts, but If it works like the other switch, then I can live with it.
I will just need schematics to see if this is feasible.

Does anyone know a good place to get this schematics for a decent price?

Just talked to a buddy of mine at Acura. You cannot use the driver's window switch anywhere other than where it is now. The driver's switch panel is one integrated piece and the switches do not work unless they are in that module.

Wow, thanks a lot NSXNEXT!

I figured it would be one big piece, my old Ford was like that.

Im still determined, I just have too many things going on to do any research.
Where there is a will, there is a way! lol...

But I really appreciate the help and suggestions. The RSX forum was great too, good ideas there as well, plus they are similar styles when it comes to switches, etc...

This forum is priceless!!

Lets say that your driver's side Up/Dn switch goes bad, ask Acura if you have to replace the entire module or if the U/D switch is available, if this is the case then all you have to do is to get one more switch like the U/D switch and replace that switch with the auto one. I think I'm going to look into this because if this is the case then we can change all the windows to that.
All it is, is a solenoid/relay switch that when pull/push all the way it will hold the circuit close until it receives the signal from the window that its all the way up or down.

Its not that simple, Max. There is something inline from the switch to the motor, similar to a relay, but it also senses when there is an obstruction on the way up so it will stop and reverse.

This is what we have to "train" when we disconnect the battery and the window auto up/down feature doesn't come on.

From what I hear, wiring this up to the pax is a challenge.

Does anyone know where I can get schematics?
