Auto car wash scratched wheels

after taking my car to an auto car wash, i realized that I made a big mistake.

Now a lot of scratches left on the clear paint of my wheels, do you guys know a way to get rid of those scratches?

Yup! Unless you know a place in California that charges less.

How deep are the scratches ?

If you can feel them with your fingernail then you've got a problem.

If not, then they may just be similar to a swirl mark (since the wheels have a clear-cote on them) which can possibly be removed with a product like Meguiar's ScratchX.

yeah, i've got some faint scratches in my wheels, which I cant feel... I may try some of that scratch-x, but I wasn't sure if it would work on chrome. Anyways, heres a piece of advice for everyone: NEVER, EVER, EVER, take your car to an automatic wash!!!!!

Comet 2404: Why never take car to a automatic car wash?
The ones we have in our area are touchless car washes, where only a series of water jets about 16 inches away from the car spray water, saop and wax onto the car surface. Sounds harmless...unless I am missing something?

Thx

The scratches are not deep, but too many of them. Among them I can feel only a few with my finger. Do I just spray on another clear coat, or should I get the "scratch-x" to try buffing them off??

Try the ScratchX or something similar - if you have access to a random orbital polisher try Meguiar's Dual Action Cleaner/Polish.

I wouldn't put any clearcote on unless you know exactly how to do it - lots of heat builds up on the wheels and if you don't have the right technique I suspect that you could really mess it up.

If you go theScratchX or Meguiars Dual Action route - and it works then make sure you protect the wheels with some kind of wax - a polymer sealant would be best.

Good luck!

The clearcoat finish on the OEM wheels is powdercoated. Not a sprayed on coating, it's actually baked onto the wheel.

Scratch-X will not remove scratches that you can feel with your fingernail.
