Just wondering, how the f*ck do gas stations add on 9/10 of a cent?

it started out back in the days when gas was like 10 cents per gallon, so adding 9/10ths of a cent was an easy way to get another 9% per gallon without it looking obvious. Dont know why they dont change it nowadays tho.

BH is right. Way back in the day, gas stations would actually compete with tenths of pennies. One guy may have been 18.2 cents per gallon and another guy may have been 18.8 cents per gallon. The cheaper guy was 3 percent less. Obviously today with gas over a buck or two, the tenths are pretty trivial. Unfortunately, every gasoline price sign manufactured has the tenths spot on it, so everyone uses the 9/10. I would be happy to be the first to abolish the tenths if anyone else would follow.
