arm rest slide

does any one know what the purpose of the center arm rest sliding back and forth for is? I see know purpose for it. I never pull it forward, always leave it in the back position. does anyone even use this feature? it lookes and seemes broken when pulled forwared. i was thinking of taken the sliding box out and making room for mounting my cell phone or something else. there would be a good amount of space to be used. what do you think about this?

well, to me it sees like the arm rest in it's natural position is way too far back to rest on actually, so i always have it pulled forward for it to be any use. Also, the darned thing seems too low and too small to start with.

I think it's easier for people to rest their arm on when using sports shift...It does feel much better...

That's exactly how I feel too. I always have it slid forward, it's useless as an armrest in the rear position.

Hm... I rarely pull it forward as with my seating position, it seems to be fine.... Also, I am concerned that if some one put his/her weight on it when it's in fully extended position, the arm rest might broke... so, rather than taking the chances, I leave it in fully retract position... :p

Personally, I find it was pretty useful. Whenever I feel like to relax a little and have my seat backed and lowered, I can always use alittle armrest (1st click).

I definitely like the feature. Whenever I'm not in a rush or just enjoying the ride, I always pull it forward cause it gives more of a luxurious feel...I got my forearm completely resting on it and my hand is on the gearshift. If you notice, only the big rides got those huge armrests where you can put your entire forearm on it, like the Lexus LS and GS, the RL, Q45, etc. This gives the same feel for the TL.

I always pull the armrest all the way to the front. It lets me rest my elbow on it and have my hand on the sportshift knob.

That thing is an armrest? I thought it was front center seat for small kids and pets.

If I use it I leave it out in the full extended position.

I think it is ugly when the armrest in the forward position. if everyonbe likes driving withe the armrest in the forward position there is a big space. What could we put in the space to make it look better.

I have to admit, I'm one of the more vertically challanged TL owners and I love the sliding armrest.

But one thing I really hate about using it is when I have a drink in the cupholder.. the one closest to the armrest is the only one that can hold a bottle of water nicely..

if I have a bottle there, it doesn't slide foward.. but when I put the bottle on the front cupholder, it gets in the way of shifting!!

i like the fact that it moves. i rather rest my whole arm on the arm rest then just my elbow. don't get me wrong im not a short guy, im 5'10" and i sit fairly far back too.

It's funny - I actually use it the opposite way! I find it's too far forward when I'm in SS mode, but love it when I can just rest my whole arm there.

I personally love it and think it's that extra little touch that adds to our car. If you dont like it - just ignore it and you'll never know it's there!!

If I'm leaning on the center console while driving(mostly in traffic or long distance travel) I slide the arm rest forward...it puts your elbow and forearm on the cushiest part of the armrest..
