you wont hear the exhaust over the engine even if you have the resonators removed with stock mufflers

If you want an even cheaper way to accomplish this, take the stuff inside your mufflers out and it will sound loud

we did this to my friend's eclipse and holy crap...it was loud alright.

Hey FTTYMS...i loved that fuel cut off sound on the vid
you car man, sound sweet!!

i went to a muffler shop today, i asked the guy how much it would be to remove my exhaust resonator, he said 45 dollars, 75 for both.. and he asked why i wanted to remove it, i told him i want it to be louder, he said that i will not notice a big difference because the stock mufflers has silencers in them.. i asked him can`t i just remove the silencers, and he said that the silencer cannot be taken off of the stock muffler.. o_O

but what stuff in the muffler are you talking about etxxz? i would like to know..

nothing other than removing the 2 resonators and comptech mufflers. i may run all new and custom pipe this winter and relocate a in 1 out 2 muffler somewhere where the resonators are and run 2 nice pipes (no more shitty y pipe) out the back

It sounds like a god damn fart can. I'm actually emabarrassed to drive it if it gets to that part of the rpms. So I have been driving extremely slow all day today. I don't know, it's fucking weird. When I put it in Park and revved it to 3k, it doesn't make the sound. Only when I'm driving it does. And it sounds AWFUL! I think I'm gonna go back tomorrow and put them back on.
I dont know if you got this fixed or not, but when I had it done to my S2000, the guy didnt weld all the way around the pipe, so it was basically the equivalent of having 2 holes in the exhaust system. Check to see if the weld goes all the way around the top of the piping.

I am glad this question was asked too...Now that allows me to do it without having to worry about what it will sound like.

sorry i think u misunderstood my question...what i meant was...do u have a pipe or something connecting the 2?...or is there a gap?...hopefully thats a better question...i agree a deep throaty sound is waaay better than a raspy burner sound...

OK, I went to the local mienicke and they wanted $75!!!! They took me out there when I asked why, and on my car, there is only one resonator, and it is right in the middle of a slight "S" shaped bend, so it was $35 for labor, and then material, and bending.......

This is very depressing. Are the older 2G TL's different?

I have a 2003...the resonator is right before the Y in the exhaust, placement wise, its right where the back seat meets the trunk...roughly.

there should be a muffler shaped one right before teh 3 feet of straight pipe before the y (just infront of the right rear tire) then between that and the cat there should be a small (4" or so 14"long or so) resonator.

only the one by the rear tire....nothing else up to the cat.....just a long straight pipe, then the cat, then the collector into the headers......

here is a link to the exhaust for a 2003 accord v6, mine looks very similar to it, and you can see how the resonator sits at a bend...

Johnny--2K go to www.acuraautomotiveparts.org and look at their diagram for the 03 TLS it does show two resonators.

If you decide to do it, definitely let me know, this is something I have contemplated doing. I would love to meet up and see what it sounds like

thats exactly what it looks like Dem......only the one resonator, right in the bend.

2003 TL-S, where in WI are you located? I did remove the resonator from the intake, and that definitely helped with sound, and top end.....I noticed it used to die out around 90 or so, now it seems to pull a lot harder to about 110 which is the fastest I have gotten up to.

yes you can remove them with out loosing power. the only thing they do is reduce flow and change teh sound of the exhaust. there would be NO point in installing a larger one to get rid of the 2. the purpose of removing them is to get a louder exhaust note and thats all.

Quick Reply: Anyone w/ exhaust resonator removed?
