I really don't wanna mount it outside. Anyone put it on the rear package shelf orsomewhere else and still get great reception?

Well I have had XM in my car for 3years now they had problems with early production ant.
I had early production one that gave me problems the 1st week I had it. Then I got a trunk mount that lasted a few years untill the wire got broke. When I got my last ant last summer the guy at Circut City said to put it inside like on the rear shelf. He said he had no problems with reception in his car. I did this & around town here in DC. were XM headquaters is located the reception was fine. Even out on the road it worked okay sometimes but it would drop out more than normal. The other trunk mounted one worked well in the dense areas of trees & rural areas. The new ant inside would drop out many times in the same areas that I got great reception with the old trunk mount. I then put the new ant on the roof & the drop out problem went away so as they say the roof is the best place. Some people that have them inside might not be drivng in areas that would give them problems.

I mounted mine on the passenger side in the corner of the windshield and dash. No problems with reception. Ran the wire behind the glovebox and into the center console behind the radio.

So I ended up mounting it underneath the subwoofer cover on the package shelf. So far I've not had any problems with dropped signals. Very stealthy.
Made a very cool mount for the XM unit. I'll take some pictures tomorrow when I finish it up.

I too have the antenna mounted in the woofer area, almost in the 3rd brake light. I just routed the wire under seals and trims, took just 10 minutes. I have problems with the signal dropping only when I am near tall trees, or trees that block the south. The antenna is from a new roady, one of the new slim ones, very nice. It is the same size as one of our factory NAVI antennas. My XM antenna may have slipped on a hard bump and is no longer aiming up anymore, I don't know. I need to check it. Eric.
