Anyone Deal with State Farm when it comes to Total Lost

I recently wreck my 2002 TL Type S with 196,000 miles on it. The adjuster declared it a total lost. My question is, does State Farm usually pay more or less then actually value plus anything else like tax/title/reg?

I looked up three are for Fair Market Value

Edmund= $4771
NADA= $7015
KBB= 5954

But here the thing, and some of you can know that finding a replacement (for me anyways) black on black TL Type S is a hard find. I have been looking for days and hard to come across one without traveling to another state. Will State Farm take that into consideration as well? I would like to get a round about number to start looking for a new whip.

So if anyone one on here has dealt with State Farm please chime in and let me know how your experience went. Thanks

$8500+ in damage

Sorry to see a sad end. It's more important that you are alive. If you are near NJ, check out my 2003 Black on Tan TL Type S on The Black Market.

My wife works for an ins. Co. I'll ask her opinion on total loss payout for you.

Really hard to tell from the pics but i dont see 8500+ in damage (from what i can see in the pics) It all looks cosmetic and in the front where every thing is a bolt on repair.

Thats what i thought as well. But everything in the fromt needs replaced and the "frame got pushed up"

Do you think its worth it to try and buy it back and part it out? $$$

if you have thousand$ in hidden performance parts- thats one thing
if you can remove and sell, it may be worth buying to part it out
OR
show the items that are not removable and added value to the car
such as tires, suspension, lighting, brakes etc that were installed and damaged
that raises the value

Now--most important is: ck online for YOUR States actual law
In Ca it turns out they have to do a search (online) for the same car-year -condition-miles yada--that is currently for sale--within say 350-500 miles of you
and at least match that cars price

that works in your favor if your match is not for sale local,, or for cheap~
book values are total bs made up several years ago
Actual value of a nice TL will exceed that -for insurance purposes
Do some research on your laws and rights
Good Luck

I would rather repair that and like "fsttyms1" said I dont see 8000+ Parts Damage there, Thats like a whole new Type-S in Mint Condition these days...

Search in Junkyards (By Pictures) Most parts seems bolt Ons the Front Beam seems to be the most Damaged but its Still Bolt On...

I highly doubt the Rear Beam got Damaged....

State farm gave me Bluebook value ($4900) for my stolen 1996 Integra with 140k. It had a salvage title and slight damage to the frame, which they were both aware of.

I'm just going off what the adjuster told me. I didnt think there was 8g worth of damage either. To be honest I was hoping that it was totaled then trying to repair it.

The total lost office called saturday and i missed the call, when i return the call the office was closed. I'm calling first thing tomorrow morning and ill let you know what they say.

I just totaled my 2000 civic in November, my insurance used NADA in Missouri and gave my NADA value deducted any prior damage and added any perfermance and add-ons like my projectors, cold air intake, rims, stereo, ect. But as was brought out, every state is different. All I know is many ins companies are out to make money not pay it out so check laws in your state and ask coworkers, family any one with experience in your state before settling with ins.

^ What he said. I paid like 3000 for an 98 EX Civic, they quoted me about 2900, I complained, they gave me like 3500 or 4000 can't remember.
My point is, whatever number they give you, get your own numbers off craigslist, autotrader etc, show them those numbers and get more money.
At least in California this ^ applies

Allstate gave me $3500 for my '99 TL with just over 200,000 miles on it when they totalled it out and I had to fight to get that. Having a receipt for new tires and the timing belt/water pump replacement that had happened about a month before helped but I still lost money on the deal. Yours looks in better shape than mine after the wreck (mine was t-boned by a speeding Mercedes) so you might be able to salvage it and repair it. Sorry about your loss and hope you get a better deal than I did.

My 99 TL with 152.800 on it was totaled on Nov.22. 2011. Tree fell on it and did over $7500 in damages. (totaled) The Claim adjuster took into account the great shape the car was in, looked at local asking prices on used TL's, and gave me $5700 for the car. That was pretty much full retail value. I had $500 deductable and with adjustments for condition ended up with a check for $5440. Certainly couldn't argue with that. More than fair. They used values on Autotrader for comps.

Make sure they give you sales tax (if that applies in your state) for the value of the car. If you agree on $3,000 then tax on that (say 7%) would be $210 additional.

If you keep the car, they should give you a deferment value as well - they may try to fight it, but your accident will show up on a vehicle history report (e.g. AutoCheck) and it will devalue the car if you ever try to sell it in the future...so you should get extra for it.

The car was at a body shop that State Farm is partners with, or something like that.

So the finial result was almost $8000. Which was the NADA book value plus tag, tax, title and registration. Overall i was very pleased on the speedy process and State Farm professionalism. They also mentioned that if i found another car with almost the same spec (year make and model) from a dealer, they would make up the difference and i had 30 days for that.

Now im in a 2005 WDP Acura TL with Navi!!
