i remember the serice manual showing a cap that comes off from the bottom. isnt there a little slot for a flat head screw driver somewhere from the bottom/rear? there should be

im not sure how the tl's mirror is designed, but be careful because on some cars after the ball joint thing comes off from the mirror peice, its nearly impossible to get it back on

Yeah that's how it looks like it comes off. But as you said, I'm a little worried that I won't be able to get it back on. Maybe Ron can figure it out.

Tho I'm not a expert, but I do remember someone mentioning about poping open the black casing that sits behind the side-view mirrors with a screw driver. It just pops right out. After you have popped them open with a screw driver, there are a couple of screws you'll need to unscrew and cords (mirror heating) you need to unplug.
I hope this helps... If you just want to be certain, just wait until some actual experts get on this thread. Good Luck.
BTW, post some pics when you're done! I'm sure it'd be the shiet!

since your rear mirror can shade up when there's light...wouldn't it be cool if you can do that to your whole car windows?

I saw a friend remove the rear-view mirror by taking off that plastic part on top and doing something with a screwdriver. I noticed, that there was a metal bracket that's permanently glued to the windshield and you just slide the mirror upwards and off the bracket with a lot of force. Once the mirror is off, you can pull out the electrical cord a little bit and I think there's a connector there that you can disconnect it at. Don't remove the ball joint, that's just trouble if you do.

Rayman, yeah the technology's available to have dimming windows and even windows that go from transparent to opaque at a flip of a switch. Yet, these fancy windows are certainly not cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if they start putting them in cars of the future though if mass production drives down the prices.
