In my humble opinion, it is not a good idea. Will it work? Yes. Does that make it safe or a good idea.... No.

The main problems as I see it are as follows....

The TL does not currently have a hitch on it. You would have to buy one and put it on, which for a single use is ridiculous.

The TL has transmission issues already and towing a heavy trailer is definately not going to improve the life of your transmission. Our cars are not built to tow stuff.

The TL has an ample braking system but not good enough to be reliable with a heavy trailer full of stuff behind it. Were you set up for towing you would more than likely have electric brakes or surge brakes. From the looks of that trailer it is depending on the vehicle towing it to supply all of the stopping power. The TL just does not have enough weight or big enough brakes to be effective for that.

I would reccomend that you pursue another option. Are you moving and looking to figure out a way to get your car and stuff to the new location? How far away is the final destination? I would say renting a UHAUL and towing the car (or having it driven seperately) is your best option but it is hard to say with no details.

I do it all the time.

anyone who says teh TL isnt good at it has never done it. I pull my 4 wheeler and snowmobile with it. It pulls it better than My S10 with a V6 in it and my neighbors Jeep with a V8. Yes we have a week tranny, but i know it doesnt contribute to it dying faster. the 1 tranny i never pulled any thing with lasted the least.

ive since this trailer gotten a 8'x10' snowmobile trailer and pull 2 sleds or my 4 wheeler with a plow

fsttyms1,
I do not doubt any of the statements you made. I do however have to say that the reason the one transmission lasted the shortest amount of time was definately not because you didnt tow with it (not that you were saying it was) and haven't you gone through like 4 transmissions. I am not saying that towing is the cause of your failed transmissions but if the proper equipment is not on the car (towing package etc which includes a cooling system for the transmision and often times a heavier differently geared transmission) then it definately did not help the situation.

Additionally, as i said, it can be done. I know a guy who pulls a 20 ft travel trailer with a toyota celica and revels in his accomplishment but that doesnt make it safe and definately doesn't make it good for the vehicle.

I still have to say that IMHO there are better options for this situation.

Our tranny is going to fail wether you tow or not. our trannies are VERY strong. its unfortunate that the 3rd gear clutch pack isnt.
I do have a large tranny cooler on it.

Oops on the other pic

My friend pulls a very similar set up to this with his maxima and has gotten over 200k to his car trouble free. If it were a daily thing, then id recomend a Fullsize Truck.
I was just stating that teh car Can and Does handle a trailer Very well. Including the brakes. Just wanted to share.

fsttyms1,
please do not take my comments as beligerent or ugly. theyare not. i think you offer the most and most times the most helpful information on this forum. i was simply stating a different opinion on this question. And granted an opinion that has never towed with my car as i have a big SUV with a towing package that I use for that.

No ill intent is all i wanted to say and i do totally respect your opinion and experience.
