Angry Another one bites the dust...

My tranny is going on me - It gives a big thump when shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

Then it scared me yesterday: I was accelerating, moderately to get thru a long green light, going about 40 mph, and when I leaned into the gas, the car started to go faster for the first 2 seconds, then the rpm gauge shot up to redline as the tranny slipped out of gear, and I slammed forward into the steering wheel due to the forward thrust and then slippage/lack of acceleration.

Seems a bit dangerous. So I called the dealer, spoke with the service guy, and he said I need a new tranny and bring it in, it will take at least 5-7 days, and I get the luxury of driving an Enterprise rental/loaner car.

Does anyone think that a new tranny will reduce/devalue the resale value of the car?

I want an M3 so bad.

more info

oh yeah, the specs:

2002 ABP, with 25000 miles, driven to/from work, and not abused very often, no mods.

I always thought this could never happen to me...
