Annoying humming noise...
I tried googling the answer for this problem and kept getting a variety of different answers. I also tried looking for a similar thread in the 2nd Gen. forum and it only seemed to be happening to people with new tires/directional tires.
Anyhow, I've had my TL for about a year now. It's never had this issue before and just started doing it this week.
Problem: The front left tire had been losing air. It was at about 22PSI instead of 32PSI. I filled it and it went back to 22PSI in about 5 days. The tire obviously needs replaced, but I was wondering if the humming noise was from this alone since the sound continues even after I fill it to normal PSI and now when it goes back to 22.
I was thinking that perhaps the tire had some unusual wear when it was flat/filled. Especially since it only started doing it after I had filled it back up.
But one of the google answers was a problem with the wheel bearing...Any thoughts

-you are shorting yourself on mileage running tires at 32psi
most can use more,,its percentage of actual weight on tire vs max cold pressure at what weight
a lot of us on low profile tires are at 42! and tire wear is perfect across the tread
for your humming we need more info on when what where it occurs
rotate the suspect tire and see if noise follows it
inspect wheel bearings and axle/cv bearings
have an alignment shop inspect it for you

I have been having the same issue...I replaced my bearings and the noise continues. My next step is new tires and an alignment.
Bearing did need to be replaced but obviously wasnt the only the causing the humming

did you replace the bad bearing? does the pitch of the noise change when you turn, if it does then you didn't change the bad bearing and it is still on your car.

It's hard to explain. The sound doesn't stop or change when swirving, either.
As for the MPG/PSI thing, I actually have noticed my car's MPG has been affected since this started happening. I might be dreaming this shit up, but it really seems so. When I drive to work it seems like the needle is lower than it usually is. (My tank stays on a quarter-tank pretty much always because I'm broke. So I can't fill it up for an official MPG test...tuition, rent, groceries, books, etc. Fun fun.)

bearings will go before the hubs.
If the bearings are still good most likely the hub is.
90%+ of the time the hub only get's damaged after the bearing is completely trashed.
The humming could be a wheel bearing.
Keep it in mind over the next couple weeks and see if it gets louder,or higher pitch screaching sounds or if you hear it snap crackling pop the start griding and wobbling wheel from wheel with sound.
If you start getting grinding and wobbling wheel and keep driving it it will damage hub and spindle.
