amazing how much ski / roof racks effect mileage...
going back to school yesterday i had to fill up before i usually do with my ski racks and skis. only had maybe little under 300 on a tank before the gas light came on.
i usually make it the full 370 with out having to fill up till i get here.

i have the fairing and thule 725 racks. they are pretty wide.
filter isn't dirty. i drove home 3 weeks ago and i got great mileage and i didn't really drive at home. it has to be the racks.

There shouldnt be that much drag. Hell i pull my 700lb trailer with 800 lb 4 wheeler on it (that sticks up like a brick in the wind) and i get 150 miles to the half tank where i normally get 200 (trip to my cottage and back) And thats using 4th instead of 5th.
Possibly weather or the type of fuel you used?

well i am climbing 2800 ft high mtns and stuff on the way here. but always make it up in one tank of gas.
you can really hear that thing whistling and i know it has to be hurting some mileage. skis hanging off can't make it any better.
fuel was mobile so wasn't that.

well unless you made teh trip on a weekly basis to see if it is indeed off that much or if it varies many things could have played into it (climbing that much elevation would cause a drop byitself). 1 trip isnt exactly scientific info
