Last week while driving, I saw a IS300 Altezza. What is an Altezza?

I think the backlash has stemmed not from appearance, but more so because of the fact that the style has been copied to so many different types of vehicles across brand names. And also because this option is frequently seen on so-called "rice" cars, a general disdain has formed towards this modification. Lexus has now made an optional rear lense for the IS with a black casing for those that could do without the other look.

I cant believe we are talking about these things again. I almost wish someone would make them so everyone can shut up about them.
These lights are soooo played out right now. Want proof?
Go to ClubSi.com and mention altezza's and you will get hung!

The reality is that they started out on a $33k IS200 in Japan about 4 years ago, and unfortunately as lower priced vehicle owners do, they emulate more expensive cars. More and more so-called luxury features are now becoming available on the open market so naturally by saving money on the initial purchase of say, a Civic or Integra, there is more to spend on mods such as DVD, NAV, tv's in headrests, etc. If the Altezza style were to have originated on one of these vehicles, most often than not a higher priced vehicle would not copy, out of pride more than anything else. But the Altima 3.5 SE has a variation of them ($28k) and the European BMW coupe has them ($30k +), so it is personal preference more so than anything else, so don't be surprised if other luxury car makers follow suite with an extension of this.

If u want the IS 300/200/Altezza lights why not just buy the whole car?
If I was an IS/Altezza owner I'd be pissed at the ricer comments. Like TedC said it originated on a 35k car. Jeez, even the 2002 Ford 35k Lightning now has em.
I personally thought they looked expensive and classy like the front headlights.
So if the reflector tailights are ricey, why not the headlights are they not the same material and the same thing?
And the dark hue IS's do have a dark tailight surround instead of the refector look.

If you go on the Bimmer board, they rag on the white out lights (from orange lenses to clear) including the rear lenses on the 3 series, even though BMW actually sells the OEM alternative taillights w/white instead of orange in them. If I'm correct, this is what the TLS has on it's taillights, so it is simply a matter of perception, not cost of vehicle.

Clear lights are cool, very clean (ala TL, Maxima, Lancer), I mean that the IS rears mimic the headlights.
I like how the BMW tails resemble an L, very distinctive, clears yes, Altezza lights, no.
