Question Air by-pass valve (Good or bad for performace?)

I have a AEM cold air intake. I installed the by-pass right under the hole where you have the screw on to tighten the pipe. Does the by-pass restrict any hp gains? Meaning does it restrict air? I'm only assuming because I don' t know if the by-pass is considered to be an extra hole in the pipe. Plus it was louder before I installed the by-pass because I had the filter where the by-pass valve is now.(Meaning the pipe was shorter but filter was still in a cold area.

I'm not sure exactly how you have the by-pass installed... it should be installed about half way down the pipe where the pipe itself disappears into the wheel well. Most literature, etc. claims there's no HP loss. I tend to agree. I didn't feel a difference with vs. without it, but it's possible you're loosing maybe 1hp or so.....

I have an AEM CAI.

I used to have a bypass valve. I took it off because I had those very same questions.

I want to say I notice a difference, but it's probably all in my head. I'm not going to put the bypass valve on because I'm lazy and still believe it's better off without it.

Hope this helps.

How did you put it on, then remove it and still be able to use the same CAI? You're supposed to cut the intake about halfway down and install the by-pass there (see the link above). I know that I can never remove my by-pass and use the same pipe b/c I'd have 2 pipes with no way to connect them to each other.....

I have the by-pass valve right under the hole where the pipe disappears. Without the by-pass, the filter is still down in that area but right where the hole is where it disapppears. (technically the pipe would be a little shorter) Which was probably louder because the filter was closer up.
