Air Intake Hose Attachement
I have a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL. At the bottom of the Air Intake Hose which connects the air filter housing to the throttle, is a molded plastic device connected to the Air Intake Hose. Does any one know the purpose of this device. There seemed to be nothing in it except that it connects to the Air Intake Hose and to the outside. It appears that the throttle is getting its air from the air filter housing as well as this "device" meaning that part of the air going to the throttle is unfiltered. Any explanation about this system?

After research I found out what the plastic device attached to the bottom of the Intake Air Hose was for. It's not a bypass air intake. It's a baffle of sorts designed to protect the throttle by trapping any sizable debris that may go past the filtered air intake.

It may also function as a sort of helmholz chamber, to reduce intake volume.
