Question After Market Navigation

I recently purchased a 2003 TL type S and am starting to put mods on it. I was wondering if there was a way to put a navigation system in the vehicle, since I purchased the car without one.

I did not want the cheap crappy ones that you could buy at a Best Buy or Circuit City, but wanted one that is similiar to the one that Acura offered in its vehicles (the type that has a viewable screen to game or watch DVD's on).

Also, I want to keep the vehicle looking clean, so I do not want to drill into the dash to keep the monitor mounted. Does anyone know if this possible or do I just have high hopes for the impossible?

You'd be better off buying the Alpine navi system and replacing your head unit. It's been discussed before, adding the Acura navi to a non-navi car is quite expensive.

Dash cover
AC controls
navi screen
navi DVD drive
wiring
antenna

You'd pay way less for the Alpine system.

alpine isnt that cheap of a way to go either....the navi unit itself is 1600...you still need a screen...which is like 600...if you want a indash screen your looking at more....and if that screen doesnt have a radio/cd player your gona need one or a cd changer...also depending on hwta screen/radio combo you choose you might need some fabrication...

of course i went with hte alpine navi...alpine screen and alpine headunit in plac eof the tovck radio and tray...just need to get dahs peices, maybe fiberglass to finish it..

Garvin Nav/PDA

The garvin PDA nav systems that they sell at BB/CC are pretty cool. I wasn't a believer until a friend of mine bought one and I saw it in action. He payed a little over 500 for the car kit online. I know you said you didnt want one but if you're looking for just the nav solution this is the cheapest way, I'd highly recomend it.

Considering you have all the necesary parts and tools...no, it shouldn't be too hard. You'd also need the new dash pieces to put in the OEM navi. system.

No its not hard to install everything fits into place. The only place it get tricky is with the wiring. If you dont feel confortable you can take it to a audio place and they could do it for you. I have all the harness its just tapping into the correct wires... The dash, screen, navi brain they all fit and snap into place... I was going to do it myself but I need the money....

Man this bytes... if only the dealer would have bargained with the TLS with navi, those losers wouldn't even budge on the cars with the navis.

So the alpine is what everyone is going with? So I have to buy the head unit and the screen and that is what, gonna cost me around 2g's? Can one play video games/watch tv/dvds/and the such on this bad boy? I will look into this... thanks NSXNEXT & njtls.... if you guys got pics of what ya'll's look like, I would like to see it....

I was thinking of just getting the PS1 individual screens and mounting that. It won't look as clean and might be the target for a vehicle break in, though.

Man screw this.... I should just get one of those portable DVD players at CC/BB and just super glue that bad boy to my dash, uh?

Oh, Perpetrators, where art thou???

Where did you get the stock navi parts?
I called Acura for prices, they said unless it's a warranty issue then they cant even order the parts.

Try a different dealership. I shouldn't see why they wouldn't order it for you? .. if you're willing to spend the extra $$$ the dealers add on.

I know were not to post ebay links but I just typed for 10 minutes and then my computer quit. Here's my auction for some Navi stuff. I'm not trying to sell it here, just an avenue you may explore. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMESE%3AIT

Thanks for the link, i saw that on ebay as well. I thought about it, but wouldn't i need a lot more parts as well, including a different dash? AC controls as well.

Yes. The insturment cluster bezel, radio brackets and A/C controls. Instead of modifying my dash, I installed the antenna and DVD unit in the rear and ran my harness under the rear seat and to the front. I ran the harness under the console and brought it under and out the right hockey stick at the top where it plugs right in my screen which is mounted on a plastic block and slid in the coin holder. If I don't want Navi then or need to use the HVAC controls a bunch, I unplug it and put it on the floor or trunk. I should have gotten the correct dash bezel and whatever back then and done it that way but I never did and I guess it worked out OK. Good Luck with your project.
