AEM Intake 2003 Type-s questions?

I have searched about this but haven't seen anyone post any questions if they had problems with this? I have a tl type-s and my friend got an aem intake installed and the car sounds and runs sweet. I talked to this kid who I know can install the same one in my car. I was wondering are there any problems that anyone has had? Also someone said about water from puddles that you run over will get into it and ruin the motor. Has anyone heard such a thing? Any other info greatly appreciated. I am not looking to spend alot of money I know there are alot of other intakes out there. I saw this in my friends car and it works so I figure its easy simple inexpensive mod. Thanks

Not unless you drive your car into a huge ditch filled with water, don't worry about the intake drawing up water. If it makes you feel any better, get the bypass valve that you can get with the AEM intake.

As for any problems...the only problem I have heard of is in some cases, the intake had fitment issues.

Thanks I understand but what about washing the car when it gets water underneath. What does the bypass valve do? Well my friend installed it on his and no problems fitting it. This voids warranty correct? Any other issues you made have heard? Thanks for all your help.

No it doesnt void the warranty, and the bypass valve acts as protection - it only allows air to pass and if you run into the unlikely situation of sucking in water it will protect the engine. The problem with the bypass valve is it pretty much robs the HP you gain from your CAI vs just getting a short ram intake.

Yes, if you ask anyone on here or even AEM, they will say that the bypass valve takes away HP.

I am going to get a short ram when I do cause of, a little more sound, no water worries, easier to clean the filter cause you dont have to take off your bumper, basically same HP gain as a CAI with a bypass valve.

On the other hand, if you have a CAI the chances of actually sucking in water is very slim - you have to submerge the filter for the most part. Water that depth would almost come through your doors. In other words, you probably wouldnt have driven through it in the first place.

Its your call but you arent going to get that much more HP with an intake, thats why Im staying with the short ram - I love the sound!!!! good luck

AEM sucks. Go with the Comptech Icebox.

I had a fitment problem with my car. I had to cut the pipe, and also remove a cross member from the engine bay. Bolt-on, my ass.

I even called AEM on the spot, and a customer representative named Rob told me, "I don't have time to sit here and listen to people complain about fitment problems."
He also tried to blame it on my car. WTF? It's a mass-produced car. If anything, AEM's design was fvcked up.

What a bunch of ass clowns. I'm never buying another AEM product. EVER.

i wouldnt worry about water as fro car washes, thats not going to hurt anything. as far as the short ram, unless you are only after sound they dont give you any hp.ive had the aem on the last 2 of my cars and have never had any problems (about 200k miles) and i live in a climate where the weather is every thing from sunny to lots of rain to lots of snow. if you want the best go with the icebox. but i myself like the aem

Wow that does suck, ya with the Comptech you are getting proven performance. You just arent getting any new looks or sound, but some people dont care about that.

Sound = AEM short ram
No worries at all = Comptech Icebox, but it costs twice as much!
