AEM CAI fitment issues ???

I’m getting an AEM CAI this weekend.

I’ve been reading about fitment issues with the filter near the foglight.

Who has experienced this?

My other question is, those who did have a fitment issue, do you have the by-pass valve?

I am not getting the by-pass so I’m wondering if that’s the common “problem” when installing the AEM CAI.

Thanks.

You just need to cut the piping about 3 to 4 inches and push the intake as far back as you can go with it... It shouldnt push out the bumper...

Anyone else have this problem?

I don't think it's specific to the Type-S but, then again, maybe it is..

I just want to know if I should just go ahead and cut some of the pipe before even trying to install the intake.

It's a problem with 02+ TL since you guys have fogs. 99-01 fits just fine. I heard it's less of a problem w/o the bypass. (btw I hate the bypass, wouldn't recommend it). When it's the rainy season, just slip off the bottom half of the CAI and use the top as a short ram. Even AEM said you will lose some hp with the bypass. Also remember you need your whole filter submerged underwater for a chance of hydrolocking. Just getting the filter wet isn't going to kill your engine.

I ended up doing the same thing. There was no way it would have fit on without cutting the tube a couple of inches.

Well, that just about sux. :banghead:

I'm an idiot. I guess I should have asked this question before I puchased my AEM. I would have gone with Injen.

Oh well, at least the AEM is less expensive than the Injen.

I have a 03 TL-S and the AEM CAI. There were no fitment problems what so ever. Make sure you follow the template they give you if your going to cut the tube. You only need to cut the tube if you put in the bypass valve. If your not putting in the bypass, everything should fit perfectly.

No bypass valve for me.

I'll see how things go when I do the install.

Just picked it up today.
