AEM CAI or Comptech IceBox?

Subject says it all...what do you think guys? I heard the IceBox's first rounds showed it was a better performer. Is it better to wait until 1Q 2002 for the IceBox/SC or go grab the AEM CAI now and the SC when it's available?

I haven't heard anything on the icebox. I'd say the AEM or Injen CAI because they are out and you know what they can do. As with the icebox it's all rumors and mills until official release. That's just me. I may get flamed for what I want.

IMO, get the AEM CAI now. I have it and wondered why it took me so long to get it in the first place. The sound after VTEC kicks in is intoxicating. And I do feel a noticeable gain in hp. My car launches quicker then it did before and faster in the VTEC range.

Shyne:
Heh heh heh...you say that without seeing the hundreds of small posts that I flamed your crazy arse in No, I'm just kidding...and yeah my stories, when I have them, sound nutty, but I'm a $hitty liar, trust me. And thank you, you've given me my first welcome

Evol and Shyne:
Herm...yeah and I guess it's not that much...you guys know how much it is for a 2k2 TLS with the bypass? I just don't have a ton of $$$ and don't want to be kicking my arse all around the forum when I get it, install it, then IceBox comes out and has this just enormous gain and I blew $200 and change for nothing...now if somebody would want to buy it off me at that time...:p

BlackShadow:
Heh I've been following your rants about the thing...you make it sound oh-so-good...you'll be my downfall...or well my checking account's downfall. I want you to know that right now...heh I should probably block off your posts somehow

Well guys, I guess the votes are in...AEM CAI here I come...that is...as soon as I get the cash up. I'm sure the consensus is get it from Tim...in which case, how much does he charge and who do I talk to (Snook789=Tim yes?) Oh...and the AEM CAI...are they custom fit for cars...or can I possibly pull this baby out and go stick it in say...my dad's Yukon once I'm done (granted engine compartments are going to be different size, but is that all I have to worry about?)

Thanks for the help guys...and Shyne I apologize in advance for any posts you may read in the future that I had posted...heh

Good choice on the AEM, although personally I'm going with the Injen, especially after reading this: http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=23345 (scroll down to RAdams 3rd post, you'll see it, it's the long one). In addition, the Icebox has too many rumors, not enough fact around it. I mean, I've even read that the Icebox will work in conjunction with their supercharger, so if you get it alone, you will not get the gains they reported on their prototype......

its basically a short ram...stuck inside of an OEM looking filter box (resonator) that has an extension that enters the fender well drawing colder air than a short ram by itself and making there for almost no chance of water ingestion...HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!! 369$$$$$$ three hundred and sixtynine dollars is a boat load...anyway if its alot better i bet you could sell your AEM for a 150$ atleast and get the comp

The Comptech is guarenteed to fit.
The AEM is guarenteed not to fit.

I was thinking about the same thing. I've decided to wait for
the Comptech. That's just my style though, I don't want any
thing overly flashy or noisy. And by design (not tested yet)
the air box style usually has more midrange punch.

All I gotta say is that if you have enough money to buy tha supercharger, you surely have enough money buy the Ice box when it comes out...Buy the CAI now, I guarantee that you wont have any regrets...If you wanna sell it, you wont have problems with that also...Good luck...Shyne

Here is the Comptech Icebox Intake..

Not all that impressed by it if you ask me after seeing it in person and looked at some of the specs on it...

If you want a CAI soon, I'd go with AEM or Injen if I were you..
Don't wait for the Comptech unless you don't plan to get one for at least another year..

Guys, I want to thank you all for your posts. I agree completely with basically everyone'sr post...I'm probably going to go with the AEM CAI, sand down the outside, paint it black with a silver stripe, and put it in of course that's all talk...we'll see...

Anyone want to sell their AEM CAI that fits a 2k2 TLS?

Well...this has already been hit...but AEM vs. Injen...hmmm. So I'll just ask two Q's that I can get straightforward answers instead of opinions. I guess for a guy like me...the only thing that makes me lean one way vs another are price and fit.

1) The AEM CAI has trouble fitting in the 2k2 TLS eh? How bad? What will I need to do to make it fit? And the Injen is a much better fit than the AEM CAI? Enough to choose Injen over AEM?

2) Which has better gains?

Thanks again all,
Austin519

I'm backkkkkkkkkkkk!

Don't I sound like I'm advertising for them?

Trust me, you will fall in love with the sound and the gain in hp. I don't have the Injen or a TL-S but the AEM CAI fit perfectly in my 99 TL. Mine came pre-cut in two pieces because I wanted to add the bypass valve and the fit was perfect. Now I don't know if it comes in 1 or 2 pieces for the TL-S. I heard conflicting stories. A member on here, TypeSDragon, ordered his AEM CAI for his TL-S but it only came in one piece so he had to cut it while mine came in 2 pre-cut pieces.
