Advice from a Cop

I know I've read all about the HID headlights being stolen from the TL's here on the forum, but this kinda made me nervous.

I saw one of my buddies yesterday who is a NJ State Trooper. He hadn't seen my car yet and is a car guy himself. So anyway, he is saying, "hot car, 260 Horse? beautiful color, yada, yada, yada" when he says, "don't take that bit to the mall. Those scumbags will steal your headlights."
He said that the police are actually advising that owners of TL's, Maxima's etc, to BACK into parking spots, so that the front end faces out into the isle. This way, theives can't squat down and hide in between cars and steal the headlights. He said there have been 4 reported robberies in my area in the last 2 weeks and that doesn't include an Acura Dealership that got smoked for 7 sets!:wow:
Some douchebags stole the lights right off the lot.

Anyway, advice from a NJ State Trooper...
Back your car in to public parking spots if you want a better chance of keeping your headlights.

He works the NJ Turnpike, but was talking about the local malls... Garden State Plaza, Willowbrook, Short Hills & Paramus Park. In all seriousness though, I got the impression that it is a very real problem that is not confined to just big malls.

went to a local body shop a town over in paterson, nj to talk to one of my friends and sitting in his lot were 2 maximas and a TL, all missing the headlights. He knows i have a TL and saw the look on my face when i saw all those cars. I asked him how much he was charging to do the work on one of the maximas, and he said it was close to 4 grand because the thieves f'd up the bumper in the process of ripping out the lights. Backing into parking spaces is a smart idea, the only advice he could give me was to keep my car in the garage! this is crazy!

Yeah, always try to face them away from walls and corners. Also try to park under lamps/lights. For the Long Islanders, I've heard that people get a lot of thing stolen from Roosevelt Field mall.
Friend of mine had his Maxima royally screwed up for 3K in damages.
I'm not a fan of movie theaters either.....heck, theives can camp out and watch you park. Damn them !!

Mine got partially taken at the Mill Creek Mall in Secaucus, NJ in BROAD DAYLIGHT!!!!!....if it wasnt for a lady that saw the theives trying to take them, they would have been gone. My car got messed up though....almost 2K in damages.

The problem with HID thefts for the TL has actually died down courtesy of the 2k2-2k3 Maximas. Their headlights are much easier and quicker to steal from what I've heard and they've taken the focus off the TL's.........

Nissan has now added a sensor to the headlights for the factory alarm. If the lights are disconnected the alarm is activated. It is geting to be a serious problem.

I have heard that the New Jersey / New York City area is the worst for headlight theft. Any ideas why? Why should it be more of a problem than places like LA?

Yeah, I haven't seen any TLs or Maximas with missing headlights here in LA. The problem sounds epidemic in NY/NJ. I hope a$$holes on this coast don't start getting ideas from the a-holes on the East Coast.

they should add a replay that sends 12v to the ballasts when they are being removed, so that it ignites to 20,000 volts in the theives hand....now that would be a good idea...hmmmmmm

im having mercury switches added to my headlights as well as varad headlight scanners which give off a bluish effect warning the thief that the alarm is armed which just happens to be an alarm system with a paging unit.
Let the pager go off see the lil present I got for em.

Back into the spot, or... park right up against a wall so those stealing f*cks don't have any space to work in. If they really want it, they will have to earn it. Might as well make it hard for them.
