Acura Impressed Me!
Acura Impressed Me!
Hi guys after 71,000 miles my tranny decieded that it wanted to retire after hearing some of the tales about acura screwing around when it came to replacing the tranny and sticking ya with a crappy loaner car i was kind of expecting to get a hard time but was suprised too get lots of help when i went in on friday my tranny was not even that bad it was only giving a real hard shift when accelarating hard and only from 2nd to 3rd gear none the less the tech said they would replace the whole thing and update all the lil associated parts now i go too the loaner car dept thinking like when i went in for my 60,000 mile service that they were gonna stick me with a pos rsx instead they gave me a choice of a mdx ,tsx,or a tl me being the die hard tl man that i am took the tl of course then they tell me its gonna be at least 2 weeks i say what the hell its like im putting my baby away for a lil winter vacation lol just thought i would share that with the fellas!

As far as I know, all 2000 and 2001 are automatically covered under an extended transmission warranty, for 7yrs/100K miles. You didnt mention what year the car was, but some 99's and 02's are having the same issues, but you have to hash out with Honda how they will help you out (anywhere from full replacement for free to just paying for labor have been reported). I think its a bogus deal that Honda only covers 2 years, when they pretty much cant really say when the issues really started. Luckily, Im in one of those two years.......but even still, this will be the last Honda/Acura product I buy in my lifetime.
The Accord cost twice as much as my Neon RT, but the only complaint I had about the Neon was that the suspension made a little noise (which Dodge actually fixed). Like I said: so much for foreign cars being built better.

Right off Honda/Acura Ownerlink:
Services to be performed:
Replace engine oil.
Rotate tires
Replace engine oil filter.
Inspect front and rear brakes.
Check parking brake adjustment.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect brake hoses and lines
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks.
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
#Inspect exhaust system.
#Inspect fuel lines and connections.
Replace air cleaner element.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace dust and pollen filter.
So, awful lot of "checking", very little replacing.
Just went thru this on my Accord, but only with the 45K mile service. Basically it was 245.00 to have them change the oil and filter, rotate the tires, replace the coolant.
Oddly enough, I stumbled on the fact that (apparently) dealers can make up their own service schedules, seemingly at will. The 45K mile service (according to OwnerLink) says my brake fluid should have been changed. My dealer told me otherwise. Realizing that the brake fluid change is most of the work involved in the 45K mile service, I raised enough hooplah for them to "give in" and do their job.
Yet another reason why I wont be buying another Honda product. The one thing I was holding onto was the fact that the dealer was nice. Now its slowly going away (my car is 4 years old, maybe they were expecting me to lose 10K on it and put another 10K on top of that to buy a new one).
