For us Canadians, I just spoke to AAMCO in Mississauga out of pure curiosity http://www.aamco.com/main/locateacen.../index.html#ON
And they said the following for the second generation TL:
For a complete transmission rebuild the range is 1700 to 1900 Canadian dollars. You normally get 1 year/unlimited mileage warranty with this.
If just torque converter needs to be replaced, the price is $1124 Canadian dollars out of wich just the torque converter is about $500, the rest is labor.
For extended warranty it goes as follows:
3YR/36K miles $800
Lifetime $1300 to $1400

The guy said they did not have any TL transmissions rebuild so far and he was puzzled why am I asking him all this for such a bulletproof vehicle such as TL.
Of course add to these prices our beautiful 15% tax.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I won't need to use the services of AAMCO. I am gonna make an appointment for the oil jet update when I have my 72000km servicing done in the next month. (Odometer reads 70500km right now with a trip to Toronto in a couple of weekends)

Mine trans died about 1K Km after they installed the oil jet, good luck to you.
As a side note, the “new” trans, my second so far, does not have that oil jet kit. Go figure.
