Anyone swap their 99-01 tail lights to the clear tail lights on the 02-03's? And do the oem '02 tail lights that they sell on this site fit into the 99-01's ?

 

Yes it fits, except for the turn sigs, 99-01 Tails uses 7440 bulbs while 02+ uses 1156. You can buy a wiring harness with the 03+ tails. or be cheap and just tape the bulb into the hole in the 02+ tails.

 

You can buy the aftermarket off Ebay. They are cheaper at $175. They are also direct fit, you don't even need the wiring harness.

I had the OEM till an accident. Now I have the ones off ebay. I don't remember if that pic is before or after, but I'm leaning toward the knock offs from ebay. You really can't tell the difference between the two. If you still want the OEM, PM me and I'll tell you where you can get it cheaper.

i got the original OEM clear lights on my 99' and it really makes my car look sweet i would suggest you get em and for 175 its a great look i will post pics very soon maybe this weekend after i get done detailing it .

For people with these taillights.. does anyone have an amber-blinking signal bulb that doesn't look so amber when it is off? I installed the ones that came with the ones from ebay.. but they are so amber they ruin the look of the clear taillight.. so I left the stock clear ones but that is a DOT/SAE violation... so I don't know what to do. Thanks.

 

I heard that you can make turn signals any color, that only brake lights had a required coloring. Maybe clear isn't a color though? Cause aren't in-mirror signal lights usually red?

I think he meant that he got the Honda OEM, but the Ebay OEM-Style one for 175 is a good deal..

 

You can't have rear turn sigs be any color. It needs to be amber/red. Having it be superwhite is illegal too and some cops knows the laws, some don't or don't care. I seen 7440/1156 bulbs that are titanium color coated. Thats what I have in my tails and turn sig. They are amber when it lights but won't give you a fried egg look when its not lit. The only bad thing is that its dimmer then amber color bulbs when it's lit, but still good enought for other to see.

 

How difficult is it to install these?? Do you just have to unbolt the originals, unplug the harness and switch them out???

 

Yes it is that simple. All you need is an 8mm ratchet and some patience. That is if you get the DEPO tail lights for 99-01. If you get Honda OEM you will need a new wiring harness or have to use electric tape.

 

Can you give me some more information about these bulbs? I want some that light up amber/red but are clear when not lit. Any brands, model nos, specs would be appreciated.

 

Which tails do you have? 02+ OEM, Aftermarket JDM style? If you have 02+ OEM, go to pepboys and find APC Titanium bulbs for 1156. If you have aftermarket, its harder to find 7440 titanium bulbs. You have to search the net, they do make them.

 

When you handle the titanium bulbs becareful because its easy to flake off the silver coating.

 

I have a 1999 TL, with aftermarket tails (Inspire JDM style) that fit the OEM bulbs and harness perfectly. They are made by DEPO and I got them from Matrix Racing.

My last question is this, what bulb does the 02-03 TL use for its rear turn signals? Because it blinks amber and doesn't have that
"fried egg" look when off!

 

The 02+ OEM tails have two lens, the interior lens keeps it from getting the fried egg look. The Titanium bulbs are sometimes refer to as Titan bulbs too.

1156 is the 02+ OEM tail with wiring harness, if you have matrix racing tails then you use 7440.

 

hzm82 i meant that my car came with OEM clear lights but if someone can get them for $175 its a great upgrade to the TL .. As for the bulbs i have polarg amber awesome color none of the cheesy crap . Here is the link
