'99 TL owners....

As with my other post, I am trying to figure out if an OEM 6 CD in-dash from an '02 TLS will fit in my '99 TL-P so I can get rid of the single CD and hopefully get one that'll play CD-Rs and have 6 CD (non-trunk). Has anyone with a '99 TL installed a newer model (6 in-dash) in their car and had it fit? Called a dealer here and they said it might not work because the wiring harness (or connectors?) is different because it's a newer model year, NOT because the CD would be from a U.S. model and put in a Canadian model. So I'm just trying to figure out if that is the case, or if it really is a CDN/U.S. thing. Need to know soon cuz I have the chance to purchase one now....don't want to get my hopes up if I know that a 6-CD will NEVER work in this '99...even if from a Canadian model.

Thanks a ton!

the 6 disc does fit in the 99+ cars BUT it has to be from the TL and NOT the CL. i dont know if the canadian cars are diff from the us cars it terms of wireing, but i doubt they are.

I have a 6 CD changer from a (totaled) 2003 TL-S in my 99 TL, it works fine but STILL gives problems with CD-R's.

Oh really???! The '02+ 6 CD in-dash still do not play CD-Rs consistently??? I thought the 6 in-dash eliminated this prob. ??
From what I understand here in Canada, the single in-dash is made by Alpine, and the 6 in-dash is made by Pioneer.
How much did your cost from the junkyard?

Do a search. I believe the Canadian disk changer will not work in a US car, and vice versa. Some guy on the board was trying sell one because he found out it wouldn't work in his car. He was from Canada and had a US disk changer. It had something to do with the connectors.

yeah, i have a '99 to and cd-rs are a pain the lower intestinal track!!!...i "found" an ipod in a lockeroom and to be honest, i think the ipod is much more usefull and cheaper than switching to the 6cd in-dash.

Think about it...you have to burn the music into the CD anyways, its not only faster to pass it to the ipod, but you dont need to keep track of the names and music inside the CDs as well as have a big cd case full of thin round objects in which probably half of them are unnamed!!! AND im sure as hell if you get the 10GB,20GB or 40GB that you'll never fill up the first 5GB with music, plus its small, cool and can take anywhere.

is this a new solution to all our problems?

I have a 6-disk changer in the trunk of my 99 TL. Will I still be able to use this on a 02+ HU (in addition to the in-dash changer)?

That's what I've been doing in my TL since I got it. Hook up a cassette adapter to the ipod and play back through the builtin cassette player on the TL. Not too worried about sound quality degradation by using the cassette adapter, as it's not that good of a stock system anyway.
