'99 TL maintenance
I'm fairly new to this forum, but it seems like a good community to inquire about my TL on. As an introduction, I'm an amateur when it comes to cars.
I have a 1999 Acura TL with 61,000 miles. I've been getting it serviced regularly at my local Acura dealer. When I took it in for the 60,000 maintenance I was told that the timing belt should be replaced. I was quoted ~ $1100 for this package. I declined it at the time because it seemed to be expensive. Looking at my manual, it says that the belt should be replaced at 105,000 miles.
I've been hearing some noise coming from under the hood during the morning when it has been cold outside and first starts up. It sounds like a belt noise I think, although it is hard to describe. I can also hear a similar noise when the AC is on. Does this indicate that I should get the timing belt replaced?
On an unrelated note, I've also just gotten my starter replaced today ($350) and my car sounds differently when it starts up then it has before. I got this done at a local repair shop, is it because of the part they used?
Sorry for the long post, but hopefully someone can answer my questions.

Welcome DASicari. you will eventually need to have the timing belt, thermostat, water pump, and tensioner done, its best to get the other three done at the the same time you do the timing belt. It cost me about $1,000 back in 2006. I have a 99 tl w/ navi with 156k miles and its been a great car, i havent had to do anything to it. Oh, make sure you use mobile 1 synthetic 5w30 and a good oil filter

Due to the age of the car, even with only 61K on it, most garages will recommend changing the Timing belt and other pulley belts. Your car is 9 to 10 years old depending on manufacture date. (inside the drivers door on the sticker) Sounds like your V belt needs changed if you are getting noise when you trun on the AC. If you spray a little belt dressing or silicone on the belt and it quiets down then you'll know its time for a new belt. Mine are starting to make noise and wiill be changed soon. 104K on mine now.
Plugs=after 10 years they should be changed regardless of mileage. I changed mine at 80k and noticed a difference in pulling power and how the car ran after changing them.
Other things to consider if you have no record of them being done.
1. Brake fluid flush / change.
2. Tranny fluid change. I do mine every 10k. Drain the fluid and replace with the exact same amount. Little less then 3 qts.
3. My Wiper rods connected to the motor assembly also went bad and needed to be replaced due to the wipers slaping on the edge of the window.
Well=lots more. Write me if I can help. Been there done that!

I hear the same noise in my car. Like when im driving above 45 mph. I have a 2000 tl and its areound 100k miles. I went to the acura dealer and they quoted me 1300. I thought it was a a lot but when i called Honda they told me 1200. I'd rather get everything done at the Acura dealer just cause the 105k service is a big thing and they use better parts.
