99 TL cuts off

Hey all,

My best friend has a 99 TL like me. He has no mods whatsever, and has 80K on the car right now. Yesterday, he was driving down the road, and the car just quit on him. he thought he was out of gas, but I asked him some questions about what happened, and I determined that it was his ignition switch. Now... I dont know much about this, I searched and didn't find much about this topic, and I've never had the problem before, so thats why I'm asking you guys!! He says its happend 10 or more times, and I told him that its a known problem on the TLs, but I want to know if it will cause damage to his car if this keeps happening. I'm forcing him to take his car in this week. Even though he's out of warrenty, and its a known problem, they wont replace it for free right?? Input on this situation is very much welcomed!!! Thanks ya'll!!!!

if it is a recalled part they will replace it for free. But if not your friend is better off ordering it through acura and having another mechanic install it. I'm pretty sure it is an easy install so there is no point to spend the money on Acura's labour when you guys or another mechanic can do it. Update on the situation and the price if that is the problem, my '99 has stalled once but I have experience the low rpms at cold start a bunch of times and if that is the begining of this problem, I don't want my car to shut off on the road!!.

There were two recalls on the ignition switch, I believe... If that is the problem, the dealer will do the necessary work free of charge. I'm surprised it hasn't been done already....

Yea, if it's because of the ignition switch, then it should be covered under the warranty.
