'99 Tl

hey guys, i just bought a '99 Acura TL. I'm just wondering if any of you have encountered any problems w/ this car that I should be aware of. Btw, it was 13k, but it has 99k miles on it. thanks.

Transmission problems are the big ones. So far it seems to be the luck of the draw as to if you got a bad one or a trouble free one. I too own a 99TL and have not had any major problems with mine.

the 99's are pretty rare for the tranny failure. However as with all TL's, new and old, rotor warpage, alignment problems, and a few other nitpickey things like the sunroof/dash/rear shelf rattle and seat belt squeak. Otherwise, shes good.

Welcome to the club dude.

I have a 99 TL with 83K. The tranny problems on 99s are pretty rare. Acura did extend the Tranny warranties for 00 and up, but not 99 b/c tranny issues are not that common. As for warpage, the brakes tend to warp, giving you a pulsation when stoppoing. This is very common on all TLs. Doesn't really cause any problems, it is just annoying.

Good Luck

I did initially and was told by Sussman Acura in NJ (they are da' bomb!) that it was a bad HU. It would happen only with CD-Rs. Since it was still under warranty, they replaced the HU, and it works flawlessly with commercially pressed CDs or any CD-Rs.

My HU would take 30 mins (yes I timed it) to load some CD-R tracks. I popped it in when I started driving, it just started playing when I was 2 blocks from home. I wasn't in a good mood that day so I just let it seek forever until it decided to play. Sort of a distructive way to make the HU quit faster to give me reason for a new one, with DVD

I guess the deal with CD-Rs in '99 TLs is that in order for them to run smoothly you should get the 12X max CD-Rs. They usually run the best in the player. Although your recording time will extend your enjoyment should correlate.

I also have the CD problem with CD-R's in my 99... Im used to it by now. It also takes a long time to play CD's when the car is ice cold.
