I own a 99' TL 3.2, "Venom" And have almost 220,000 miles on it. I keep up the maintenance and am not pleased with the recent issue of the, "maintenance required" Light turning on. The mechanic I see had no codes pop up when he connected his little computer. I recently had an oil change and there were no reported issues. October 2014 I had to replace the original master relay ($300). 2 years ago I had the tranny re-built. Now I notice I have high RPM's when accelerating and the car is slow to accelerate. Should I get a tune-up?

The "maintenance required" required means NOTHING. It is supposed to be reset at every oil change and has a pre-programmed time to come on at 7500 miles (factory recommended oil change mileage). It comes on for nothing else. Press and hold the trip and reset buttons, while holding them down turn your key to the run position (dont start the car) Continue to hold them down until the Maint Req light goes off (about 10 seconds) DONT turn the key to the run position then press the 2 buttons. You will change your outside temp gauge.


Now as for your higher rpm while accelerating and slow to accelerate, are you sure that isnt just in your head because you saw the Maint Req light amd are used to the car? Unless your trans is failing and slipping neither should/could be happening.
