99 3.2: Trouble shifting out of drive!
I just bought a used 99 3.2TL with about 97k. It test drove fabulously, mechanic checked it out great, body shop said good... but now, when it comes to parking in Seattle= It's all parallel! -and I'm discovering one little problem:
Quite often I find the shifter locking itsself from shifting up into neutral, reverse, or park. I've tried holding the braker harder, pumping the brake, letting go of the brake and hitting it again... everything. Sometimes it will go easily, and sometims I have to jam it as hard as possible for it to get up there. ...and that can't be good for it.
Anyone else have this problem or have any clue what might be causing it? The transmission seems to be working fine and that doesn't seem to be the type of problem anyways.
This is so frusterating. Help!
Thanks,
Chris from Seattle

It might be your Transmission Linkage Cable. Try that to begin with. My sister's RL had the same problem as you are describing and similar mileage. Replaced the cable and it was golden again.
